Default Apple's culture of secrecy

According to one unnamed employee, "workers in the most critical product-testing rooms must cover up devices with black cloaks when they are working on them, and turn on a red warning light when devices are unmasked so that everyone knows to be extra-careful."

One has to ask, after reading things like this, what does the secrecy achieve for them? Are they really as successful as they are because they're so paranoid about leaks? Does their secrecy make them cooler?

Personally, I don't think so...

I think the main reason for their secrecy is they want that 'wow' factor, the element of surprise. Also, they want to stay a step ahead of their competition. It is interesting how you can see their secrecy hinted at in their ads for the iPhone.
