Oh I wish I had that TRS-80 PC-2 back in mint condition - haha

LOL I had two of those back in the day. The first got stollen out of my car, I bought another one the next day!

I'm not sure what I ever did with the second one.

My first computer was actually a Texas Instruments TI994A. It's stitting here on a shelf in a plastic bag.

And too the question at hand:

Comfortable. Enjoying life and can buy all the latest toys!

Im rich 3 months out of the year (well not rich just paid well and barely any expenses). I work in the summer at a very, very, very, good/high paying job (live at home - just turned 21), then I go to school from september to may at which time I am poor (next years last year). I took a little out of a paycheck to get the iPhone this summer because like most of you, i love new technology.

Well, if you use the dem's definition of rich and want to get more of my tax money then yeah I qualify. 63 yo, own my own small business. My younger brother definitely qualifies and he got one for himself and his wifey. He continues to get all the toys before me and makes me jealous but I got the phone first day and was raving so about it, he went out Sunday and picked up his pair AND got activated before me. I was hot as a struck match.

This thread is hysterical...I don't think you can have a reasonable discussion like this without defining what you mean by rich, middle class or lower class, etc.

So here's some ideas:

Range 1 - Upto $60k/yr
Range 2 - From $60k - $100k/year
Range 3 - From $100k - $300k/year
Range 4 - From $300k - $1mm / year
Range 5 - More than $1mm -> lucky bastards

Some people may think they are middle class but to you they may be super filthy rich, etc.

Nowadays, what used to be considered rich or wealthy a few years ago is now middle class!

I'm towards upper Range 3, just turned 28 and the iPhone was pretty much an impulse buy which I got hell for from my wife Don't drive a fancy car or anything like that but I love me some gadgets...my one weakness!

BTW, to the previous poster who said he was lower middle class but has a '07 BMW - not sure how having a 30k+ car (at a minimum) can be considered to be lower middle class, if anything you're probably middle to upper.

Those ranges don't mean squat if the person is wallowing in debt. I know lots of folks that make lots of money.... and turn around and send it to their debtors as fast as they make it.

If you don't own any real estate (especially the place you live), you're not rich. If you bought your iPhone with a credit card, and don't pay that credit card balance (and ALL credit card balances) IN FULL when you receive the statement, you're not rich. If something were to happen to you (serious accident or medical condition) and you don't have the resources/savings/investments to maintain your current (or at least decent) lifestyle for you and your family, you're not rich.

Income does not determine wealth. Wealth is determined by what you DO with the income.

Mark, I couldn't agree with you more but in the interest of not disclosing that kind of information on a public forum...I figured income was some indicator of at least what you have to work with.

But you closed your post by commenting about the guy with the BMW being better off then he might think he is when, in fact, you don't know if he is in debt up to his eyeballs on that BMW and everything else around him.

To all you young folks out there... SAVE YOUR MONEY!! Pay YOURSELF by putting aside as much as you can afford. Invest! Buy/own the place you live in. Have a solid financial plan (insurance/liquid assests, etc) in case of emergencies. TIME is what helps make wealth. When you're young, you have a lot more time on our side.

Good point. Fortunately only debt we have right now is my wife's graduate education from Columbia which I'm paying off slowly, pay our CC's off in full every month (mainly use for easy monthly accounting, securty and cashback/promotions). Recently bough a condo so have that part done, have a 401k, high interest savings and some stock as well.

Think I'm headed on the right track - or at least that's what I want to believe. BTW, I no longer consider myself young - although that again is relative

If you're in the upper range of range 3, why would you're wife give you a problem about buying a $600 iPhone? I'm in the lower range of 3 and buying an iphone was not a issue. I don't have a wife or any kids and I also recently purchased a condo but financially $600 is not a big hit to my discretionary income.
