    1. Turn off your phone using the standard method: Press the lock button until the slide appears then slide to turn off. Do not do a "hard reset"

    2. Turn your phone on and start counting

    3. Note the time it takes until your home screen appears

    4. Note the time it takes until your carrier logo and bars appear

    ____

Now, if you wouldn't mind, please submit your results in the following format:

    1. iPhone type (V1 or 3G)
    2. Firmware version
    3. Jailbroken? If so, on a Mac or PC?
    4. Time from power on to homescreen (in seconds)
    5. Time from power on to carrier logo/bars (in seconds)

Sorry to be so anal about it, but I think this might be interesting...

My phone's syncing right now. I'll post mine later.

    1.iphone 3g
    2. 2.1
    3. mac jailbroken
    4. 50 seconds
    5. 50 seconds

    1. iPhone V1
    2. 2.1
    3. JB, PC
    4. 81 seconds
    5. 81 seconds

Apparently, there isn't much delay for the carrier like there was on 1.1.4...

Anyway, you can guess why I started this poll. My phone is flying in all other regards. Hmmm...

    3G
    2.1
    not jailbroken
    33.6 seconds
    33.6 seconds

I believe the results are going to vary greatly depending on the method everyone uses to calculate the boot times afterall not everyone counts at the same pace.

I actually did mine with the stopwatch from my v1 phone. Then I reset the stopwatch and counted off onethousand one, onethousand two method and when I got to 33 seconds I looked down and the stopwatch was actually at 42 seconds. It's 9 seconds off and we're talking about a half minute sample.

    Just something to consider.

Well, I'm pretty sure my boot time discrepency can not be boiled down to count method alone

But yeah, use a stopwatch or a clock with a second hand.
