Default Set More Frequent Email Retrieval - Instructions at BGR

I haven't tried these (don't really want / need email checking this frequently) but The Boy Genius Report has a post up with instructions on how to set it up to get mail every 1 minute, 2 minutes etc., at:

Interesting, looks like they just edit the plist file and change the 15 to whatever value is desired. As most of you know, there are easier ways to modify a plist file, even with a mac, so it should ben easy change. They also say that they see no reduction in battery life; I wonder what others will say, post your experiences if you make the change.

If all it took was a change to the .plist I am surprised that it took this long.

This is not push email in the slightest.....the point of push email is to save the mobile device's battery....this just sets it to check every five min or whatever you specify....still just pull email.

That's absolutely true. Using the proper technical definition, this is not push at all, there's no continuous polling etc. My reason for leaving the thread title similar to the BGR post title is that I think for the vast majority of users, the technical definitions don't matter much - they just want their email set to retrieve very frequently / continuously.

This is not only not even close to push email, it's a battery killer.

They are getting a lot of great comments on the original webpage.

My comment just above yours gives my reasons for sticking with BGR's 'almost push' theme - but thinking about it, probably should've chosen a better thread title - so have edited it now ...

Totally agree. Anyone who has ever used a BB knows this is BS. No offense to the original poster as you are only trying to help.

When the iPhone does REAL push email and Jive Talk'ish (aggregator) IM.. it will be the real deal Holyfield phone IMO.
