I actually called T-Mobile the other day to tell them that I was planning on canceling service to switch to the iPhone 3G and he immediately said "You can buy unlocked iPhones on eBay and use with our service no problem!". I had to explain to him what the difference was between the V1 and the 3G version, but the fact is he immediately approved use of the iPhone on T-Mobile and he was a supervisor.

Hey, how did you get your contacts switched over from AT&T?

Did you just write them down and enter them by hand or did T-Mobile do it for you?

EDIT: And how does the T-Mobile sim card look on the outside of iPhone?

You just sign up for T-Mobile and give them your number to port over. You don't even need to talk to AT&T at all. T-Mobile might need your account number but that is available online at wireless.att.com, or you can call customer service if you prefer.

And I don't understand your question about the SIM card.

Ok, I just called T-Mobile and they said that they can't transfer over your phone contacts from AT&T.

But if you said you can, then how did you do it? Just sync the phone with iTunes?

Like, if you look at iPhone with AT&T sim card, it's silver so it matches the phone. That is the sim card, right? So I was wondering how the T-Mobile's sim card looks.

That's the SIM tray. You pull that out by sticking a paperclip or needle in the little hole, and inside it sits the SIM card.

iTunes backs them up. You can also back them up with Outlook or you in your Yahoo mail account.

The SIM tray mathces the iPhone; the SIM itself (AT&T's anyway) is blue and white.

This is a T-Mobile SIM:

Contacts on the iPhone aren't stored on the sim. I don't even think the iPhone CAN store them on the sim. If you are worried about your contacts, get the free funambol app in the app store. It allows you to upload your contacts. Do that before you switch providers. Then after you switch providers download them. But you shouldn't have a problem anyway.
