Default Will the Hype Be Less for iPhone2?

I remember back to last year leading up to the release of Apple's iPhone. Something like 10000 news articles were published in the time leading up to its premier. The excitement was unbelievable. Lines were formed almost a week ahead of time (at least in nyc) and news teams were constantly televising it.

Now that the rumors for the 2nd iPhone have become nearly factual, what do you expect the energy surrounding this product to be like? Will it be as publicized? Will people care as much?

With so many new countries just as recently as this week getting the phone do you think there will be a simultaneous international release? What effect would this have on the excitement?

I feel as though the excitement for the first iPhone came partially from the US exclusivity. Other countries wanted it so badly and went to/still go to extreme means to getting them. With an international release will that energy be lost/or increased?

I obviously have mixed feelings about it. I will be getting one and most likely waiting in line on day one as I did in 2007.

the hype will definately be down because alot of people seem to already "know" about it. it will still sell millions just like the first one though

The real question is whether we'll have to wait in lines again. hehe.

I have a feeling that this is going to be very anti-climatic. Percentage wise, I think that 70% of the people that already own an iPhone are not going to go get a new version when they just (within a year) got this one. The other 30%... It's anyone's guess.
As far as new customers, I think that there will be a 5% rise in owners overall.

That sounds about right to me, Hawk. I also am anticipating an anti-climactic unveiling, unless Apple has really kept something special hidden from the public.

If its a 3g phone, just 3g I'll most likely pass , but Is those rumors about 2 way video chat, gps, mobile
tv are true , I'll be the first in line 2 get 2, for my girlfriend and I.

Surely at times I would
need to come up with excuses as to why the video chat isn't "working"

I was just thinking about this and completely forgot about the corporate side of the coin. I still believe that it's going to be pretty anti-climatic, but I would now say that there will be a 15% rise in customers. I think that maybe 1 out of every 30 companies or so would be willing to shell out for new phones and server over the blackberry setup that they would be replacing.

I have a feeling the release abroad is going to be much more impressive than the launch stateside. While people see the benefits of 3G in the States, abroad 3G is extremely vital and a huge reason many people didn't get an iPhone to begin with. I don't think we'll be seeing people camped out for days at a time again.

While many countries despise how we Americans act, there is no denying that the arts are coveted throughout the world. Our music, and to a lesser extent movies, transcend all others, and old brands like Levi's and Converse Chuck Taylor's go for outrageous black market prices. The iPhone wasn't very functional for the 3G world, so the response was lackluster at best. I agree that as soon as an iPhone is available with 3G you are going to see a huge jump in buyers from other countries.

I am with Hawk and Psylicon about how the US will greet a 3G iPhone. Can we at least get 3G coverage in 80% of the country AT&T? That's crazy that they are already dumping money and assets into LTE when we need their HSPA NOW.

it will be significantly less for this reason:

last year, everyone knew about the iphone, and exactly what it looked like, and what it could do. We had SIX months to sit around and read glowing reviews, watch preview vids, the '07 keynote, etc to feed our curiosity until iDay.

THIS year (and every year hereafter), apple won't be announcing future iphones that far in advance to prevent drops in sales to current iphones. So there will be more speculation, but less to "drool" over and get excited about in the meantime.

Heck, we don't even know anything about the next one!

For all we know the only difference could be that they will be available in lavender.
