Default Skeptical about buying an iPhone

I've had the 1st gen iPhone for about 6 months and when Apple announced the new 3G version, as you can guess, I was ****ing pissed. I, like many others, tried to sell my phone in a hurry to get the new phone. Needless to say, I failed miserably, never got the phone, and I've been phoneless until now.

Now Christmas is rolling around. I can't help but feel like this is a deja vu. It feels pretty nostalgic, as once more I have enough money to buy the new 3G phone. I suppose the whole point I'm trying to make is this.

Will Apple release a V3 iPhone for sure? I've been reading around the forums and I've noticed people sound 100% sure it will come out. And also, will Apple ever release a 32GB model? One of the threads read "32GB will come out in 2009". I would ****ing pissed to see that happen right after I buy a new 16GB model.

I can't help but feel like Apple's doing this to me on purpose. I mean, seriously, this isn't the first Apple product that I had something like this happen. Only a MONTH after i bought my iPod video, the iPod classic comes out. Only 5 months before i bought my iPhone did the V2 version come out. This time, I'm going to prevent this to the best of my abilities.

I am not sure what to tell you. Is Apple going to come out with another iPhone? You net your sweet ass they are. Are you going to be pissed about it if you buy one now? Probably, since this would be you third time Apple "got you".
No matter what you are going to be behing the curve at some point. My v1 died recently, and I did everything to try and ressurect it, but was unsuccessful. I was very happy with my v1, and planned on keeping it till some truely better came along. But since it died, I am typing to you on my new white 16gb 3G phone. Yes I like it and yes it's a little faster (ok, in some cases, much faster) but it's practically the same phone as before.
What you need to ask yourself is, "should I wait another 8 months, or take the plunge and be satisfied with what I can get now?"
Up to you.

The problem with rumors is just that, they're rumors. A 32GB iPhone would be nice, but the $$$ of the iPhone/iPod's hard drives needs to go down for the iPhone to see any more memory (being that the iPhone only has one HD slot whereas the iPod has two, letting it hit that 32GB benchmark with two 16GB drives.) Now thats not to say it won't happen, it may and the 32GB iPhone might carry a heafty price tag.

As for a 3rd gen iPhone (4G would refer to the cellular data network which a 4G network in the States is YEARS OUT) coming out next summer like the last two..... why not. It seems that Apple is constantly upgrading their products, so why would the iPhone be any different? I could be wrong, but for some reason with phones, old isn't good enough for most and they need new, so Apple would be losing out on money by not rolling out a new phone that people will buy.

If it wasn't for 3G and GPS, I would have never got rid of my first gen iPhone, but I just use cellular internet too much to not get 3G. And the GPS is nice too. So if this 3rd gen iPhone only has a better camera, different size, or other small things then I will not be upgrading. But if it gets a better/faster processor, higher resolution screen and more memory, then that might be worth it for me.

If you've gone this long without a mobile, then whats a few more weeks to see if a 32GB iPhone is announced.

HI--I just got m first iPhone this week. If they put out a 3rd generation iPhone next summer I would consider passing this one on to one of my children and getting the newer one if it can support mms texting. As thrilled as I have been with my iPhone so far, I was quite chagrined to discover that I cannot send pix in text messages. I know I can email them, but it is cumbersome and some carriers make it difficult to find the phone number's email address. I read somewhere that for att it's 123456789@mms.att.net, but so far that hasn't worked for me.

Any thoughts on what Apple is going to be announcing on Oct 14?

How does someone "Fail Miserably" to buy an iPhone??? That's like saying you failed miserably to buy a hamburger at McDonald's. All you have to do is:

1. Go to the Apple Store
2. Give them money.

They will then give you an iPhone. It's pretty much fail proof...

I believe he is trying to say that he tried to sell his phone at a time when the market was down for the v1's ( like right when the 3G went on sale), so he really didn't make any money.
Although, even making 200 is enough to get an 8GB 3G phone when they came out.
Sorry, I chaulk this guy up as one who will not be satisfied unless he gets it the day it goes on sale, and the moment whatever he has is outdated by a newer version, he'll be right there to either buy or whine.

Ah, how pitiful. I was hoping someone would give some hard-core, proven facts. I guess ultimately it goes down to two choices: Buy one now for temporary satisfaction and [most likely] end up regretting it later OR endure the torment of not even knowing when the new iPhone will come out but be happy when it finally does.

And Hawk, I'm not sure who you were referring to when you said "I chaulk this guy up", but for a jobless 16 year-old, (I'm one of those people who HAS to have the best of whatever is given so in this case, it's the highest capacity) $300 is quite a lot of money. And I only managed to sell my v1 for $145.

$145????? I am sorry. I know you sold when the demand was low, but... Not that low! I just sold my V1 last night on ebay for 225, and the communications board on it burnt out, so it has no service, wifi, or BT.
I feel for you, I really do, but you should take that as a lesson. If you always have to have the best and can never be happy with what you have, you will be miserable for the rest of your life.
If you want to wait for the new phone, then all you have to do is sit back and wait till June or July. You'll know for certain by the end of January, as that's when they should be announcing it at Macworld 09.
But if all you are waiting on is a larger capacity.... Well, don't know what to tell you. If I were waiting, it would be for better features like stereo BT, or better GPS, stereo speakers, or a 5 MP camera. and not just one of those features. It had better have MOST of them, otherwise it's the same phone with minor tweaks.
For you, don't buy now. go ahead and wait it out. Just remember that old adage of "he who hesitates is lost".

welcome to the world of revolving phones. I can speak for alot of my brothers with and without the iphone and comment that i/we have spent 2-3k on cell phones, blackberry's, accessories, etc over the past 5 years. It is just something u learn to live with. If you want to keep up with the latest technology it comes at a price. Have fun!

Amen. One can speculate all day long on what's next, but then you'll drive yourself nuts wondering if you should wait. Buy now and have fun with it or wait forever for Apple to stop improving their products.
