He was running that program just from an iPhone 3G. You might want to hold off though. This augmented reality probably won't be developed for the iPhone commercially for another year or more. What I posted is from a UK post-doctoral researcher in parallel tracking and mapping and augmented reality who developed this program. I doubt it will be available for the 3GS. Maybe in 2010 or 2011 there might be some applications. It is up to you of course. I can think of a lot of reasons to have the 3GS.
