    New iPhone 3g speeds

I see today AT&T wont get the new 7.2 mpbs hardware done till 2011. That's 2 iPhones away! Will we actually notice any improvement in speed with it until then?

If they improve processing power, you should notice a faster phone to use, however data speed is unlikley to increase until AT&T release impoved network speeds

What I understood from that press release is that AT&T will be completely finished with their upgrade to 7.2 in 2011, and that they are beginning preliminary testing this year and starting to implement this in some areas in 2010. I get the feeling that they'll start with some of the bigger cities, so people in those areas could see much faster speeds well before 2011.

    "Press Release follows:
AT&T* today announced plans to upgrade the nation’s fastest 3G network to deliver considerably faster mobile broadband speeds. The network upgrades are slated to begin later this year, with completion expected in 2011."

The 4G network upgrades won't roll out until 2011, but faster 3G will be available much sooner.

Lucky for me I live a couple minutes from Cleveland which is where a lot of the first 3G was starting. I always have 4-5 bars on my First Gen iPhone, for that reason Cleveland will probably be a test area for it.

Also Cleveland was the first city to have HD News broadcast on 3 channels.
