the $999 MacBook is a great laptop. Sure, apple could make a cheaper notebook or netbook, but then that's just what it would be - cheap. It would run Leopard like crap, and make the user experience generally frustrating. It would defeat the whole purpose of owning an apple product. That's why iPhone and iPod touch have an OS BASED on OSX, and not OSX.

id like to see the next iphone installment be so amazing that it negates the need for an actual net-book, every time i think of buying a net-book i realize i can do most of the major things on my iphone. but i would love to have a device i could carry in my pocket that runs the iLife and iWork suits, that'd be amazing, crossing my fingers lol
