Maybe I am in dunce mode at the moment but I don't understand what your post is implying.

someone said that apple should have the wireless charger for the iphone because the pre does. but either way you still have to dock your phone, might aswell be able to update it aswell as charge it.

maybe there wasnt a point, or maybe i am saying just because it seems like a cool concept does not necessarily make it useful.

The main positive i see is a smaller chance of the connection wearing out or breaking.

True, but over time anything breaks. I'm not sure how reliable the wireless charger would be, looks like i will have to do some research!

I don't think there's any point to having wireless charging. That's how I've always seen it, the usb cable is an all in one cable - syncing, charging, updating, restoring it handles it all. Until they can do all that through wireless charging they won't stop using the usb cable. Now if we can get wireless charging to where it just charges by itself when it's in your pocket then I am interested. The pre charges $20 for the back cover and $50 for the wireless dock, and to me that's not worth it just to wirelessly charge.

in its current state, i tend to agree with you. The whole point of wireless technology is to not be tied down, but if the phone needs to be in contact with a special dock to charge "wirelessly", then that benefit is lost.

At any rate, it's an idea worth pursuing. wireless syncing should be easily achievable soon, and who knows, maybe something like solar or kinetic charging may make its way into phones. I bet in ten years they won't ever have to be plugged into anything.
