Default Android on iPhone? Would you switch?

http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/28/l...ts-the-iphone/

So Linux has been ported. Geeks everywhere rejoice. But what if Android takes off? The guys that did the Linux port are close to having an Android port for the iPhone. Would you try it out if you could restore back to Apple land if desired?

I'm thinking I would...

Also, what would this mean for the possibility of Apple going open source with the iPhone? If there's genuine competition?

I'm getting these notions from a Slashdot article I saw today:

I would 100% give it a shot.

I'm very fond of the Android OS, just not the device it's currently only available on.

Exactly. If they get a proper port, it's going to get some pretty crazy support, I'm guessing. I think this is going to be a huge topic around here in the coming months...

Linux on the iPhone - No. Not really interested in that.
Android on the iPhone - Sure. I'd give it a shot.

Open Source iPhone - Yes. Yes. Yes. Forget Android.

If Android's ported over successfully, what would we do about the keyboard?

The Android OS, currently, doesn't have a built-in on-screen keyboard.

What other open source is there beyond Linux?

And Saverino, not to worry about the keyboard. The dev team geniuses would certainly fix that.

My prediction, Apple will NEVER go open source.

I would be more likely to try an Android port than JB again. In fact, I'd be an early adopter.

It's open source so surely someone would develop an app that supports an on-screen keyboard. That's the beauty of Android. As long as it was a stable port I'd 100% give it a try. I'd try Linux too. I used to exclusively run Linux on all of my computers.

pretty sure Mac OSX runs a mach kernel with a dash of BSD, freeBSD & NetBSD sprinkled in there. From what I understand the phone is pretty much running Mac OSX.
