I'm not a fan of the plastic back either, but I think anyone that says the 3GS is not a significant upgrade has no actually used one.

i agree with that for sure. Somebody said that in best buy when i was getting a case, i compared mine with my buddies 3g its like a cable modem vs, 56k its not even fair lol. Crazy faster and a huge upgrade not only in speed if you ask me.

I don't car about the back of the phone because my iPhone is always wearing a full case. I never see the back unless I change the case.

I dont mind the black plastic on the back its pretty high quality so its not cheap looking like the *cough* pre *cough* lol
