Wouldn't that just be ducky if all of us are completely wrong about the 3G iPhone. What if the iPhone truly looks like that thing Indy posted awhile back.![]()
If you think the new iPhone will have different software and a whole new interface you are just wrong at this point. With the revelation of the sGold3H chip embedded within software of 1.2 and heavy buy on screens and a lot of other small things.
The real question I want answers to now are what will and will not be included in the business version vs personal version. I can see a problem where people want an ipod built in still, yet only the business version will have a contact search feature. See the problem. Hopefully the personal version will have everything and the business version will be the limited one.
When is WWDC?
WWDC is scheduled for June 9-13, 2008.
So are you guessing there will be two seperate devices? One for business, one for play?
I was under the impression that they were just adding business like properties to ALL iphones, thats what I got from watching the sdk meeting anyways.
And despite all the rumors and interesting links and news in the coming days, I won't believe anything 100% until apple anounces it or WWDC time, but its still exciting to play the game! ; )

I agree. If the only addition is 3g and the UI and OS are the exact same, I will be opting out and probably going back to Nokia. I ordered a N95-4 to trial yesterday. I thought I could live without copy/paste, MMS, A2DP and a more robust email application, but its more annoying every day. Just a basic function like being able to search for all emails from a particular person should be easy to implement. instead I spent 30 minutes yesterday scrolling through my email to find one from 15 days ago that I needed. Granted, I get alot of email through my work account, but still, there should be an easier way to search other than scrolling through every single email.
That said, I'm giving it till June to see what 2.0 and the 3g phone will bring before I make a definite switch. For the few peeves I have I still love the iPhone overall.

Indy, towards the end of the engadget story, it is indicated that the contact search feature is in the enterprise edition of the firmware:

So far it does seem that there will two different firmware versions. I'm not too crazy about this either because I use my iPhone for business and personal use. I just hope the differences won't be too extreme. I can also live with the price points being thrown around. As long as the Pro version of the iPhone is still between $400 - $500 I think they will enjoy continued growth.
No not two devices, but two firmware versions. I hope this rumor is false because I'm sure each version would have something the other doesn't and vice versa. i would want all the features on one of the firmwares if that was the case though.
Like I said people that think the UI or device as a whole might change.....start giving up hope that's just not happenieng. As things get leaked out slowly like the manufacturer for the new 3G touch screens (same screen BTW) and the new chip (sgold3h) for the 3G being hard coded into the new firmware, leads us to believe that the new iPhone will be generally the same with a few harware tweaks. I guarantee it'll have the same UI.
Since most people in this thread are on a lot of other threads I've seen we should also suggest, as a hardware fix, a GOOD speaker this time!
Another case for two separate devices concerns the camera. Security being what it is, camera phones are not popular with businesses and security-conscious agencies. The non-camera version of the Blackberry has widespread appeal for that reason.
