Movies converted to mp4 and play in movie section of Itunes, but I can't sync

I have dug through many forums on the net about this. I have a Mac and ripped a commercial DVD and converted it to mp4. I was able to get the movie to show up in my movies section on Itunes and when I click on it, it will play there. When I got to my phone in itunes and go to my video tab, the movie is not there...it says "There are no rented movies that can be transferred to this phone." What do I need to do to get the movie to show up here? Thanks!
