Default How to convert .AVI into a suitable format vid of Iphone 3g?

I want to format my video .avi into a suitable format that can be played in iphone. However, i don't know which are the video format that can be played and what is the best converter of it.. I mean the free one.. I really need anyone help.. thanks..

Use the highlighted preset in Handbrake.

em... try dvd video soft... they helped me out.. but not 100 %
