Yes it's working much harder with all the rotations per minute of the disk spinning...Mark
Constantly having to be tethered to a charger is NOT MOBILE in my opinion (I.e., iPhone 3GS battery).

That is also a very processor-intensive task. The other thing to keep in mind is that the aluminum casing acts as a heat-sink to dissipate the internal heat.
