The file not playing on your iPhone has nothing to do with it being m4v. Check the bit rate (both audio and video) you are encoding, as well as the encoding codec. After you select your source, make sure you select HB-iPod preset. Keep the default settings.

Another area to keep in mind is the picture settings. The largest compatible picture with the iPhone is 640x480. You may need to go into picture settings and reduce the width down to 640 (maintain aspect ratio, of course).

Sorry to bother u again...I don't have a"HB-iPod" preset per say but have a "iPhone/iPod touch" preset as well as a iPod high-rez and iPod low- rez preset on my handbrak(of version). When I use the iPhone preset they are : encoder:H.264...Audio Encoder:AAC. "Insert iPod Atom" has a checkmatk in it. Picture settings show Width at 480 Height is left blank(shouldn't I put height at the iPhones 640? Video nitrate shows 960kbps. Audio Quality: 128kbps. Sample rate: 48khz. Dynamic range compression: 0. What should I do? Thanks.

Why can't you drag & drop it into iTunes? Try dragging it onto the itunes window and dropping it directly over the "Library" section on the left.

I dl'd the latest Handbrake with the gui for Windows. I will try that and see if it works. This last one didn't work but I don't recall doing it for Windows.

I haven't used the iPhone preset in the Windows version of HB 0.92. Usually, I select the iPod High-Rez option, and leave the remaining settings to default. This will result in a screen resolution of 640 x XXX, which is completely iPhone compatible. If you need a lower bit rate, to reduce the size of the file, you can lower the bit rate from 1500 kbps.

Under the iPhone preset, I noticed the iPhone Atom check box. I haven't a clue to it's meaning. If it's important enough, I recommend linking over to the Hanbrake website and perusing the forums.

I use Hanbrake in both Windows and Mac flavors.

your settings seem to work! I am using iPod High-Rez. It shows encoder as H.264. Only problem is the length of time to convert...it says almost 6 hours!??? That a LONG time! The file is converting to "mp4".
