Default Handbrake Help

I'm using Handbrake on my Mac but I have a couple problems. First it takes a minimum of 2 hours to rip. Is this normal. I had purchased MagicDVD for my PC and usually it took 30-40 minutes. Second the file comes out between 1.5 and 2.3 gigs. That's huge for what I'm used to. Am I missing some simple Handbrake settings?
Thanks

Which settings are you using? Hit the "toggles" and you will see some of the default settings.

I just downloaded it and went with the defaults. I'm at work now so I'll have to look tonight. I guess I'm trying to find out how long it should take to rip a 1.5 hour movie and how big should the file be. This is for playing on my 3GS.

The default is probably for the Apple TV and is pretty big and takes a few hours. Make sure to select the iPhone toggle.. it should be about 600mb I think

Yeah, definitely just a matter of selecting the iPhone for the output device. I've got 7 movies loaded so far and it's only taken up 4.55 gb of memory.

It does still take awhile though. About an hour fifteen or so.

Thanks guys. I got it to around 600 MB so I'm good with that. It's still slow but as long as I'm not trying to do 6-8 movies at a time I'll be ok. I need to check out the queue feature to see if I can load several movies and let them rip overnight.

You can do that as long as the movies are stored on your hard drive. If you're ripping these from DVDs, you can use mactheripper to do that.

And keep in mind that converting video is heavily processor dependent, so speed will vary from computer to computer.

Also, if you haven't already, make sure to update the presets by going to presets->update built-in presets.
