can you compressed dvds for ipod to make them really small

hi guys i have a 8gb 2g ipod touch and im going on holiday in a month and i want some full films on there i know how to do it but i was wondering is there a way of making the file as small as possiable or what is the best file exstention to have to be able to get some more films on there?

I use an app called handbrake. It has preset settings for all types of devices. I would recommend you look into this app. I'm sure somebody can post and let you know if you want to take out the credits that might make it a little smaller. If the movies are bought through iTunes then you can just sync them to your phone. Handbrakes is a ripping software that requires you to have the DVD.

i know how to transfer them to my ipod and to convert them but i was wondering if a certain file exstention would would make the file smaller
