The volume control on the Altec Lansing BackBeats works properly as do all (that I know of) volume controls that are on the headphones themselves. This excludes the otherwise awesome Sony HBH-IS800's. As for the FastFwd/Rwd buttons - that is disabled per Apple's implementation of the BT AVRCP. These controls work, though, if you use an iPod BT dock dongle (like the Sony TMR-BT8IP), then pair to that instead of the internal BT radio.

Ok... let's say i bought the TMR-BT8IP dongle since it looks smaller that the Altec Lansing Backbeat's one. Could I pair the backbeats with the sony dongle and have the FF/RW and all the other BB's functions working? Or do the BB only work with their dongle?
Again... how big is the BB's dongle, could i tuck it in the Belkin iphone sport band?

The Sony TMR dongle should enable the full AVRCP profile for any standards-based headset. I no longer have the BackBeats but do have the dongle and each BT headset that I paired to it worked fully.

BTW, the Sony dongle is tiny, but it will add length to the phone so it might not fit in a case.

BTW, even though the 3GS has built in BT with A2DP, you can still use an A2DP dongle in the dock port. Doing so will enable the full AVRCP profile but at the expense of having a dongle plugged in.

HTH!
So the Motorola S9 headset works with the 3GS voice control, wich means i could say "play next track" and i could FF/RW using voice control correct?

i read on the sony site that the TMR-BT8IP in compatible with iPod® 4G, 5G; iPod® mini; iPod® nano 1G, 2G, 3G; iPod® touch; iPod® classic... but they don't say anything about iphones... will it work? I'd hate to throw away $70...

The Sony BT8IP definitely works with the iPhones, but won't work with voice control feature of the 3GS.

Nice idea, but AFAIK, "Play next track" or anything similar, is not a valid voice control command. You can say to play a specific artist, playlist, etc., but not issue a FWD/RWD command. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

Eureka!!!
Here is a complete list of the 3gs voice commands... And as I hoped: "next song" and "previous song" are two valid commands!
