Yes it certainly is.
I wouldn't know this problem until I exchanged my iPhone with a new one thinking that the old iPhone bluetooth was the problem. The new iPhone with blank Contacts worked great. Then the problem reappeared after I synced the new iPhone with my huge Outlook Contacts and Calendar.
I have a BMW X5 2006. I have an iphone. How do I play music and have the ability to use my iphone. Is there one device that does both?
My car does have an integrated phone system in it. But I was told (at the dealership) that I can't use the iphone with that. Help.... thanks.
your X5 has bluetooth built-in? the iphone may work with it - there's a link earlier in this thread to a list of bmw's compatible with the iphone by production date. you should check that out. and you should try pairing the iphone with your X5 regardless - my X3 is not listed as compatible, but my iphone works perfectly with it.
in my experience, the people at the dealerships have very little knowledge about the bmw bluetooth systems...
if the bluetooth system works, the only thing you need then is a kit to play music on your iphone through your stereo. bmw makes an OEM kit, but i wouldn't recommend it (i have one and it works just fine, but wish i'd gotten a different kit). european auto source sells the Dice kits - they are very active on some of the bmw forums i visit and have good customer service.
iPhone's bluetooth is not capable of transmitting music through bluetooth (not AD2P compatable). The iPhone bluetooth is for phone purposes only at this time. I had an iPod adaptor installed in my car and plugged and older iPod into it for music use. It sounds great and allows me to navigate the playlist menu on the BMW's iDrive screen. The iPhone's phone capabilities should work great in your X5
Good Luck!
Does anyone with a BMW ULF BT module, able to see caller id when a call is recieved?
If caller id works for you, please let me know which ULF module you have.
Thank you.
I am not sure if this is what you meant but in both cars we can see caller ID. One is a 06 330i w/o idrive. It shows fine on the radio display. The other one is a 335iC with idrive and navi. Works fine in both cars. The rest of the stuff works too btw, phone book, recent calls etc... Since 2.0.1 I don't hear echo either. Very good hands free quality, and it pairs almost instantly. No problems really. Compared to the Samsungs we have used in the same cars this is night and day.
I remember abot a year ago my 330i had a communications software update when it was in for regular service.
Thanks for you reply. Yes that is what I meant, but I should have been more specific, my X5 E53 uses iBus and the newer models as yours use a different technology (the name escapes me).
The latest iBus ULF is 13th generation part 84 10 9 154 358. I have a 4th gen iBus ULF, it pairs, downloads contacts but does not display inbound caller id (the NAV Tel screen is blank), I have to look at the iPhone. I was wondering if anybody with a 13th gen iBus ULF module could see caller id before I go out and upgrade.
BTW, in 3G areas the call quality is outstanding, in 2G areas the quality is ok.
I see. Try this website also, if you haven't already:

It has an X5 section also. Although the X5 part of the forum is not as active, many guys who post in the E90 section have an X5 as well. There are many knowledgeable folks there. It is worth a try, that forum helped me many times before.
Thanks Huncowboy, I will check it out.
