BMW issues - iPhone 3G

I've got a BMW 2005 545i. When I first got my IPhone, it paired properly and both the power strength icon and my address book appeared on the screen, however after 3 weeks, the power indicator started fading on and off and when I attempted to access the bluetooth, I get a message on the car screen telling me to activate the phone. The phone indicates that it is paired to the car and the bluetooth screen in the car identifies the iphone
being paired. Unfortunately, the bliue tooth does not work and worse yet,
if I'm using the phone with the bluetooth activated on the phone, I lose the call as the bluetooth fades on and off in the car. I have tried turning off the WiFi and this still doesn't help. Any solutions?

can you use a bluetooth headset with your iphone still without any problems?

if so, it sounds like the bluetooth module in your 545i is dying. bring it to a dealership to have them check it out...

Mine worked fine with both our 2006 330i and 2004 530i for the first couple of weeks. Then the BT connection started dropping repeatedly after pairing. Behavior was the same in both cars - so it was the phone.

After consulting Apple support and trying all of the resets with no help, a full restore solved the problem. Everything is back to working great after the restore. It was a minor inconvenience have to setup the iPhone again (it was decided to NOT use the backup in iTunes in the restore process) but it was only about an hour until I had everything back to normal. Apple support was very helpful BTW.

Thanks. I did a complete restore and he bluetooth still doesn't work properly (fades on and off). Please explain the restore witout ITunes backup. I don't understand what you mean. Thanks again.

As part of the restore process you are prompted to choose whether or not to use a Backup file that iTunes creates automatically. The Apple tech recommended not using the backup file. The backup file would have restored my e-mail settings, favorites, bookmarks, etc.

The problem I had was the phone would pair for about 15 seconds, then drop the connection for another 15 seconds, then re-pair and drop again repeatedly in the same cycle. That sounds like the same problem you describe. Apple and I were guessing that the phone was dropping the connection due to some problem with the contacts information being transferred to the car receiver. Prior to the BT problem showing up I had problems syncing Outlook and may have corrupted the Contacts list in the phone during all of the troubleshooting. Eventually, I got the phone and Outlook working together without a problem. After the restore (again, no data backed up at all) and starting from a clean slate, so to speak, I synced my phone with Outlook for the contacts and everything has worked flawlessly since.

Hi, I will be picking up an 05 545i, fully loaded.

One question for you. Does it have an IPod connector?
