Default Bluetooth File Transfer "Discussion" Thread

You know what I thought about this morning?
Bluetooth file transfer. It will probably never happen, for this phone.
I’ll give you 1 good guess as to why.

I would think they won't include Bluetooth file transfer, because it would mean the ability to "share" music. The company created things like iTunes to make money. Bluetoothing music is pretty much P2P sharing, on a different level. Now, maybe they could find a way to disable music and movie bluetoothing, and just make it photos? That would be nice. I could deal with that.

I think eventually it will allow transfers to designated regions, much like you encounter with iPod disk mode. But you're right, it will never allow direct access to songs without going thru iTunes.

I wish they would at least add picture bluetoothing.. Bluetoothing songs is not really important, especially since i can't use them as ringtones, anyway. At least let me BT pics... :P

I was able to transfer contacts between my old cell phone and the IPhone with
Bluetooth. Worked well.

I sadly found out today that the iPhone DOES NOT support data transfer via Bluetooth. I attempted to sync my contacts from my PocketPC (PPC-6700 running Windows Mobile 5.0) and also my more basic, Samsung M610. I could not get the iPhone to maintain the pairing with either device. I also could not accomplish the transfer of contacts (or any other information) to the iPhone from either device (via Bluetooth). I spoke with Apple support and was informed that the Bluetooth on the iPhone only supports handsfree (I.E., Pair with vehicle handsfree or Bluetooth Headset). I was truly disappointed to learn this. I was so used to Bluetooth data syncing with my other two devices. I will say though, other than this problem. The iPhone is an amazing piece of electronics.
