I also have a pairing issue, so I called Apple and spoke with a tech guy who told me the continuous searching function is normal and not to worry about it or consider that this is the problem. But he didn't know how to solve my problem. My phone shows the connection with my bluetooth speakers but no sound comes out of the speakers, only from the phone.

A reply to my pairing issue on this board suggested to keep the autolock funtion of the phone on "never" as that solved his pairing problem, so you might want to try that and let us know if this works. I'll try as soon as I get home tonight.

Apple tech is supposed to get back to me today after they test bluetooth speakers with the iPhone 3GS...

Bad news.... It would seem that Apple has not tested its iPhone 3GS with bluetooth speakers (in my case a pair of Sharper Image KO 500) before putting out their phone...and, well the phone won't pair with the speakers despite being A2DP 1.2 bluetooth (works without a hitch on a Blackberry...). I waited 2 years and switched from my original iPhone to the 3GS just for the bluetooth feature... I'm pissed!

Default Bluetooth searching???

I guess I am in the same boat here. I have a 32 gb 3gs and have never tried to use the bluetooth feature. I have not even turned it on until today since I was told it drains the battery faster.

First question: does bluetooth in the on position drain battery faster than when off?

Second question: I had a co worker who wanted to send a ringtone by bluetooth from his Samsung mobile phone. He could connect with my iPhone (saw my name on his display) but I could only see his device name, but would not connect. When he sent the ringtone it told him not sent. My iPhone shows searching for mobile device and never would see his device.

Third question: I was frustrated with it and accidentally pushed the "forget device" button and his device went away totally. Does this mean I can never connect to his device in the future or is there a way to re establish permission to view his device?

Sorry, new to all this, hate that I sound so ignorant!

Iphone doesn't support bluetooth file transfer to or from other devices. Yes, using a bluetooth headset does use a bit more battery than wired headsets. If you told the phone to "forget" a device...not sure but maybe rebooting the phone and try to rediscover.
Rumor is this function will come soon but only if you are willing to jailbreak.

Thanks for the information, and if that is the case, it sucks! Why would Apple make the iPhone 3GS not able to transfer files over bluetooth? I have friends with cheap phones who do this, what gives Apple!

I have not desired to pair with speakers, but if I do that will suck also! So I guess bluetooth on the 3GS is for headsets only???

I am not sure why this feature was not included. I guess it can be a security issue if you leave this featue on and someone goes around sending files to visible devices. Apple does things their own way. Right now Bluetooth supports headsets including stereo headsets with the release of the 3.0 firmware. At least they gave us that much. I have read that controls on the Bluetooth headset ie, skip, pause, may not work but you have stereo output and mic control.
