Default if you have older Family Talk plan :(

I just came from my local AT&T and it looks like no iPhone for me.

I have an older Family Talk 500 plan that I pay $39.99 a month for.
Plus 3 additional phones, taxes etc. my bill is $84.00 a month.

I've just been told that to get the iPhone I have to change my plan to one of the current Family Talk plans which start out at $69.99 (for first 2 lines).

so with an iPhone and my 3 additional phones, plus the iPhone data package(which I want and is required) this would put my monthly bill at $110.00 BEFORE all of the taxes, etc..

So I'm looking at a monthly increase of at least $30.00!

what really gripes me is if I buy ANY other phone I can keep my old plan.

I feel I'm being punished for being a long time Cingular/ATT user.

oh well, enjoy your iPhones.

My friend's wedding was on Friday in Florida and I just got back to Philly so I haven't picked up a phone yet. Did you try it to see what happened?

well after saying I wasn't going to get one, I wandered into my local AT&T around 7:15 Friday night and bought a 4 gig iPhone.
The last one in the store by the way.
The salesgirl said they only had 30.

At the store I updatd to a current Family Talk plan.
At home it took about 5 minutes to activate and I've been enjoying it ever since.

My bill will go up about $30 dollars but with that I gain the iPhone data package plus cellular to cellular.

oh well, you only live once.

Quick question about the activation process. My family just joined AT&T and I am going to add an iPhone line for $29.99. I can do this right? What kind of info will I need when I connect to iTunes (it sounds like I'll need info from the account my mom sets up as the primary number right?) Is there an option during activation to add a line to an existing plan? Thanks.

Default Apple & ATT are ridiculous!

Apple, just because you are coming out with a phone that you spend millions of dollar marketing doesnt mean you can be ridiculous and require a 2 yr commitment. What kind of dealings did Apple and ATT/Cingular cook up in their boardrooms. Apple used technonolgy that was already in the marketplace and tried to brand it new and REVOLUTIONARY. What BS! Im not buying an iphone. Id rather get a prada phone, or an HTC touch or even the samsung f700. For those of us who dont like scams, check out other alternatives at http://www.home.telephonology.com

It's been said from the very beginning that there wouldn't be a discount, no matter what. Apple never discounts anything so the iPhone would be no exception.
Thanks for the clarification. So is there anyone out there reading this have the phone and plan? How much is the plan a month? How many minutes?

Mike, just go to AT&T for all of that.

and click on 'Plans'.

If I buy an used iPhone that has already been activated by someone else then I should be able to swap it out with the phone I already have without signing a new contract right? I'd then pay the extra $20 for the data plan and my contract terms would not change right? Thanks!
