Default Just posting my experience (former VZW)

This POST is for any person who is currently with verizon wireless and is leary about making the switch to another service provider, and paying that hefty $150-$175 early termination fee from vzw. Here is my story!

My experience thus far with AT&T wireless is GREAT! When the price dropped on the iPhone, I felt the urge to jump on the bandwagon. At that point my situation was as follows:

Phone: Pocket PC xv6700
Service Plan: Voice $60+Data $40+Text $10+Tax $10
Bringing my monthly plan to $120 plus a almost guaranteed call to billing every month to correct some sort of discrepancy (although don't get me wrong, they have A+ customer service)

At this point I was also carrying an iPod Nano 8GB with me for my music purposes (car and in between classes at college ect)
Knowing full well that if I switched over to AT&T I could combine my two devices by purchasing an iPhone, I did just that.

I went to my local AT&T store that I knew sold the iPhone and picked out a 8GB iPhone (4gb was still an option then) - I then took it home, activated the phone, then waited 24 hrs for my number to port over from verizon.

With AT&T I can count on my monthly bill to be $99.98 per month every month, with no surprises so far.

So I am now saving $20 odd dollars a month and I sold my pocket PC for $180 and my ipod nano for $120. Making the switch a lot more bearable.

FYI if you want to port your cell number over from another provider, DO NOT cancel your service with your exsisting provider first. Establish an account with AT&T, Port the number, THEN cancel with existing company.

strangly I am on the other side. I came from VZW without a contract and I am preparing to go back. I came here to search for infomation so that I am sure that I don't own a brick after I cancel.

In general the pricing is fair and billing thus far has been great. The problem that I face is that as a phone this phone fails. Signal strenght is a mystery and call reliability is near zero. While out walking our dogs I approached this situation with my wife since I was going to have to shell out serious coin to transfer and her response was "thank god. I was trying to figure out how to bring this up to you. The iPhone is why I don't call you on the cell anymore, the calls always drop/break up".

So milage on the iPhone may vary. I am in a strong cell area for AT&T and I do all the tricks while holding it to help with the signal. It has just been too bad......

I'm with you. I too came from VZW. I was with them since they were AirTouch back in the days. Only reason I switched was because I was so impressed with the iPhone. After switching, I find that AT&T isn't as reliable as they claim. I get dropped calls and have a hard time finding enough signal to get the chance to make a phone call. It isn't constant, but it is a daily problem. Very irritating. I laugh at the AT&T commercials that claim they have the best signals. I still love my iPhone though. Just wish I could be on a VZW plan.

I have to say At&t is not as bad as it used to be on the other hand I think its probably because cingular merged over.. I remember having tons of problems years ago with at&t and was pissed cingular changed to them... I agree that there are times that we get dropped calls I also poke fun at their commericals. I almost switched to verizon but im happy I did not THANKYOU IPHONE only reason to stay

Sorry To Hear all those bad Stories. I Can Agree with extreme, cause i always know how much my bill is going to be a month i pay 132 every month because of all the extra stuff i added and i also have another phone on my line. Customer service is always helpful and polite. I have been with cingular before At&T and the merge did not affect my service, but the iphone at times does drops call (Rarely happens). i guess its the phone cause my other At&t phones didn't do that (Razr V3xx & Sony W810i)
