i opened a new line to get the 3GS, they say i have to ship back ot pay full price??

im not sure how this works exactly, but i opened up a new line and got the 3GS at $199 price, because my line didnt qualify for a upgrade. Well i called to cancel the line and they told me since it was within 30 days i can return the phone or pay full price $599 for the phone... ya right! lol what re my other options? i assumed you can get a new line, get phone then pay $175 for canceling the line and keep the phone?

You only received the phone for the $199 price point because you signed a 2 yr contract without that contract either you return the phone or pay full price

They gave you the phone for that price because you signed a 2 yr contract if you cancel they make you pay full price cause you broke the agreement

However once your contract is fully valid after those 30 days are up you may be able to follow thru with your evil plan and just pay the 175 for the termination but im not sure cause AT&T handles the iPhone a little different then other phones

I'm guessing because it was in the first 30 days it's like a return instead of a cancellation. Maybe if you try to cancel after the 30 days they'll just charge you the $175 fee but you will still end up paying one billing cycle of having that line including the iphone data plan, your activation fee etc.

Day 1-30 you cancel you give back the equipment, day 31 you cancel you pay 175 etf and keep the equipment.

Seems like a lot of trouble, and cost a bit more than just paying the 399 to upgrade your line.
199 + 30 (iphone data plan) + 10 (second line) + 175 (ETF) + 36 (Activation Fee) = 450
Upgarde your line = 399 + 18 (Upgrade fee) = 417

Your gonna prolly end up paying close to 500 Anyways cause by the 30th day you would have to pay one billing cycle, the activation fees, the taxes and termination fee and unless your cancel it on the exact 30th day your gonna also pay prorated charges for the next month.....Your whole plan might just blow up in your face....AT&T doesnt play when it comes to iPhones.....

I advise others to not try this because of this example alone....

Exactly. AT&T has been around since before the invention of the telephone (telegraph service), they've thought everything through. You can't pull the wool over their eyes.
