That's odd - I'm not sure why she would say that. But you can check your account online to make sure it was applied. After a day or two, I logged into my account and the $8.99 SMS plan showed up as a line item when I checked my rate plan and features. I'd suggest you check there first to see if it was applied before calling customer service and risk getting someone clueless who'll tell you that code won't work...
