ok the prepaid visa is a good way for out of states users to get through the process, i do order my prepaid visa, i do try to get through the Gophone option during the setup and if it shows up... bingo??
would be great, though i wonder if this option requires you to prepaid EVERY month ?? Otherwise it might happen that the sync through itunes get stucked once your account isn't being regularised...? any ideas?
I'd like to find out how to get a prepaid credit card too!
I just did this and input everything correctly except for the social security number. For that I entered 999-999-9999. My understanding is that entering anything else will result in an email telling you to go into an AT&T store to complete activation. Once in the lair of the evil sales rep, you will be lulled into a false sense of security and well-being. Whereforto, the evil AT&T rep will pounce on your wallet and suck it dry! Muahahahah!!!!
So, just enter a bunch of 9's. It's working great for me. I opted for the $49.99 plan and my total charge for the first month came out to $51.64. Not too shabby. I made one phone call and it took a minute. 15 cents was deducted from my account of $29.99. As I don't make or receive a whole lot of calls on my phone. Usually never over 300 a month on my Sprint Treo 650, I figured a 200-minute/month plan with rollover would suit me nicely!
As always, YMMV. But, I think this is a fabulous way to keep my options open for if something greater comes along next year.
I HATE CONTRACTS!
Quick question: Does anyone know what happens if you burn through your minutes before the month is up? Do you go negative and that is deducted when your card is charged on the regular date? Or do you get a warning message telling you to add more buckolas?
Visa is one of my clients. They have a multitude of card options for everyone in any financial situation. There are prepaid Visa cards that you add money to before hand. Then you use it like any other credit card, but money is deducted from your account. This is good for kids in college who might want to charge a new car on credit and you finding a huge bill the next month!
There are also gift cards, same thing, but you load them up with a set amount and your recipient uses it as a regular card.
There are also check cards that are linked to your checking or savings account and you automatically draw from that.
Anyway, there are lot of options available. Here's a link to the US site covering these types of cards.
