Default Adding a new line...

Hi,

I've currently got two iPhones (mine & my wife's) on a Family Plan. I need to add another line for business use. My understanding is that I can add another phone to the plan for $9.95 per month.

Since I can't have two numbers assigned to my iPhone (alas!), I plan to just get whatever phone AT&T is giving away for free these days and forward its number to my iPhone.

In order for this to work, I've been assuming (dangerous, of course) that, when the new number is dialed (after being forwarded to my iPhone), the caller ID on my iPhone will show the new line's number, NOT the number of the actual party who made the call. Is this correct?

If so, I could simply assign a unique ringtone to my new line on my iPhone. If this isn't correct, I'm going to have to make another plan...

The number being forwarded will show on your caller ID screen. I do this also. I have 2 company issued phones, both of which are forwarded to my iPhone. I get the actual number calling me show up so I can see who it is.

Hope this helps.

Jim

BTW, the forwarded numbers are from a Blackberry and from a standard GSM flip phone.

OK, it sounds as though the original number calling will be forwarded to caller ID on the iPhone. That's definitely not what I want. I don't care who is calling, but merely need to know that it's the business line ringing on my iPhone.

Can this be accomplished in some way?

Not with any simple settings on either of your phones. You're going to have to get AT&T Customer Service involved for this one.

And if they know how or are even willing to do that I'm sure you'll be paying for it $$$$.

Yeah, I've pretty much reconciled myself to having to come up with a different solution. I thought I had it nailed. Alas. :-)
