It's real. I just think it is probably expensive to get started into this. It probably would also take quite a bit of study to get going. Here is a link if you want a little more info.

Lights in my house are all X10 as well and remote controled. No reason to but it on my iphone (already controled from my tv remote--touch screen), but cool that I could do it if i want.
