Go Jim go !!
But that little news announcement scared the hell out of me in terms of availability.
I wonder if my name really is on that waiting list, or if they just took my name and then tossed it in the garbage.

why is everyone so obsessed over these waitlists??
especially the ones that are out now that aren't even official.
it's become quite obvious that some stores (ok, maybe most) are just taking a list and are more than likely just going to contact these people to let them know they're available....they're not going to make a vip list based on the waiting list. the AT&T release made that quite obvious.
as for June 20th...i f-ing give up. the 11th? the 15th? the 20th? the 29th? it's just another date that gets thrown into the argument...nothing for sure.

I agree with you, the waiting list issue is a joke, and very misleading. Let's say that a store has a waiting list of 400 customers. Just think how long it would take to call all those people. Then what if there is no answer and no voice mail or other way to leave a message?
Or what if they get the person on the phone and that potential customer has all these questions they want answered. They would be on the phone forever. It's nonsense.
Based on past use of waiting lists, they are useless. What happens is the moment the product becomes available, the store fills with people ready to buy on the spot. The store is not going to refuse to sell to these customers and just put the product on the shelf and save it for someone on the list. Especially since that person may have changed their mind or can no longer afford it, or any one of a thousand different reasons.
The stores that are run by experienced managers are the ones that are not waisting their time by maintaining a waiting list.
They are smart enough to know that this phone will sell itself and dealing with a waiting list is a waste of time and money.

thanks you! ive been to several stores and all have said first come first serve here in TN. One store said they started a list and it got so large in two days, they just threw it out.

That's an exciting news feature....hope they aren't just trying to make news out of a rumor. Not having to wait that extra week or so would be great...especially since my ipod just broke.

That's cool, and thanks for the link. It's another possible rumor, and we can't be sure until it comes from the mouth of Steve Jobs. To me, though, a Wednesday seems a weird day to release a gadget like this. I would have thought it would be a Monday or Friday, but I don't know too much on the matter.
That was a good news piece. It was interesting what they had to say about iPhone Killers and the LG Prada.

I especially liked how they didn't name any phones other than the prada phone.
Which looks overpriced, slow, and just all around uninteresting.

I had a feeling it would be june 22nd. It is in between both rumored dates so that was my feeling as to its true release.

Does anyone else think this rumor might be the real deal?
I mean, its the frickin' news...

I think Jobs would like to hang onto the spotlight and announce the real release date himself.
Unless someone on the inside let it slip.
But in the story they never said who gave them the information, or had any employee with a mic in his/her face.
Who knows?
My personal feeling is that Steve Jobs will announce the release date 6/11 at WWDC and that magical date will be the next day - 6/12. The crowd erupts in applause, the heavens part and all is right with the world.

I suppose I could always be sick on the 12th .

I don't understand why they would pick a Wednesday to release. It doesn't make sense.

Why doesn't it make sense? I don't care what day it is as long as I can get one.

Because you would think they would want it to start at the beginning of the week. I hope they're right, but just basing it on a phone call to a Cingular store seems like conjecture to me.

From what I can see, why not have it released on a Wednesday...therefore that's two days of news that'll be out there to hype it up (even more). I'm not sure about you guys, but I don't watch much news on the weekends besides MAYBE Sunday evening if I'm lucky.
Giving it 2 days to simmer on the news (CNBC, MSNBC, etc) during work days will create a buzz...not to mention radio shows, etc. I'm just throwing thoughts out there, but to me why not mid-week?

I guess it's as good as any other day, but it's out of the norm.

I agree. I think they just made these lists up to shut people up so they wont have to deal with annoying customers constantly asking. I'm sure it was easier to say "Yeah, sure, put your name on the list" rather having to explain that cingular HQ would not allow waiting lists and why, etc...
