So I was browsing last night and came across an article that mentionned that TheStreet.com (financial info portal) announced that Apple is gonna come out with a 20GB iPhone by the end of the year. Nobody else confirmed this information.

I personally doubt this is going to happen, but if it does, I am going to be EXTREMELY pissed at Apple. I (we) are stuck with a 8GB iPhone and late adopters will have all the benefits of the iPhone without the drawbacks??? That is not fair.

I don't want to be a prick here, but I hope Apple is not gonna come out with such a huge memory capacity for the next 2 years because if they do, I will regret my purchase.

Has anyone heard about that???????

haven't heard a thing but would guess it might be correct. Certainly a memory bump would be one of the easiest upgrades for apple to make. And I really doubt they will wait two years to do it.

Being an early adopter is rewarded by having the coolest toys before anyone else. The downside is always the inevitable upgraded products that come out later.

Sounds way too expensive unless they went with a hard drive, and that probably wouldn't happen.

I think they should put an SD card slot on the darn thing. Then you could add on or swap cards like darned near every other multimedia phone on the planet.

Dude, at $600 a piece, I can't really afford to buy one every 6 months...

20GB seems like an oddball number someone pulled out of the air. 16 32 even 24 maybe, but 20 doesn't sound 'right' to me.

Such is the price of being an early adpoter, if the rumor is even true. Besides, more memory will most likely make an expensive toy even more expensive.

Honestly, I wouldn't be at all upset if they did release a version with more memory. With 112 songs already loaded, I still have 5 gigs of space left. That's more than enough to get me through a few days.

So now we're up to 20GB, I wonder what the new model will be in a week. It seems that every week the new model keeps changing.

The reason Apple went with a flash memory based iPhone was for durability. A hard drive based model wouldn't survive being dropped when a flash based model would. There will be no 20 GB iPhone for this reason.

If it's gonna be a 20gb then that would be well over the $600 price!!! I really don't think i would need that much space..they might be gonna do this for companies use tho..they could use that much space..

I'm betting somebody like pocketpctech comes with a ram upgrade before Apple releases a bigger capacity iPhone.

What surprises me most of all is how our big print media outlets are picking up all this random speculation and posting it as if it were verifiable fact. There's little credibility in journalism anymore, imo.

I can live a couple years with what I have. I can always upgrade at that point. 8 gb is plenty for me right now. I dont need my entire library with me.

I don't really care how big the memory bump is, it is the concept of the upgrade that is the interesting point here. The iPhone is more like a computer than a phone. Most of its functionality is software based and that can be upgraded easily as we've already seen. So what's left for new model upgrades? More memory, faster processors, higher res screen. What else are we likely to see?

I have a friend that works at Bellsouth ( the new at&t) and he is waiting till the 3g verison comes out around Christmas.
Now while he might work with them (at&t), I still think that 3G is pure speculation at this point. I searched around and the 2 reason I kept finding for going with Edge in the first place is:
that it's pretty much everywhere the GSM signal is, where as 3G is only
regulated to major metro area.
And apparently they could not fit the 3g chip into the phone as it is built now.

No offense taken at all but I just would like apple to wait at LEAST a year before coming up with a new one.
I already got screwed on my iPod (bought 60GB and 2 months later, they came up with the 80GB for the same price!), i don't want this to happen again with the phone. It's really frustrating

This is how it always goes... A company comes out with an item, the public tests it out... The company hears feedback from it and fixes the problems and bugs with it, then at a later date the company then turns around an makes a version more stable and better. Thats how most gaming systems go atleast.

I didn't pay for my iPhone I won it from a radio contest the week before it cam out but if they come out with a next one I think they should have every one bring they old one in as long as its in great condition and just pay the difference cause if a 8gig cost $650 after tax(ps3 price) how much a 20 gig will cost it will seriously cost an arm and a leg just do the math

Knowing Apple, it's all speculation. However, that's the price we pay sometimes for being early adopters.

The Street.com is full of anti-apple, market manipulating crap. Don't believe it. Apple never makes new products obsolete, and they wouldn't in this case either.

Cramers a moron.

i'm glad i got mine for free lol, i ordered 2 4gig iphones and 1 8gig and they sent me 3 4gig's and charged me the difference on the 8gig to the 4gig so i disputed it from VISA after AT&T wouldn't refund my money and i got it for free! lol

THANKS AT&T! :D

I actually wouldn't mind too much if they released a larger iPhone, as long as I didn't have to continue to refresh my 2 years contract and pay the activation fee every single time. Considering there isn't a discount w/the iPhone if you purchase it with or without the 2 year contract, Apple would be smart if they did that.

I think that it is always unwise to purchase a new electronic device right when it is released. There are always bugs and later on they almost always add more features. So for you early adopters if there is a new iphone with more hardware upgrades by the end of the year, you can't blame anyone but yourselves. Hopefully Apple will add more features via firmware updates.

My opinion is that they won't come out with that quite yet. I plan on getting the phone around the end of the year. That would be awesome if a 20GB is available by then.

Guess we'll see.

If Apple does come up with and upgrade to 20gigs I'm in! I can already feel the excitement. And judging by how people are still getting all goo goo eyed when I pull out my iPhone I don't think there will be a problem putting it up on Craigslist for resale.

Dude are you f*cking kidding me? A) Juding by what Apple has done with the iPod I highly doubt they will do that with the (much more expensive/2-year contract) iPhone. B) And you are saying that if they release a slightly better, more memory version of iPhone within a year, it will become "obsolete"? Dude when I whip this baby out in public (let alone the Helio store) everybody around me can help but stop and look/ask. C) Btw they might offer an exchange program so that if you already have an iPhone you can just extend your contract with At&t and they will exchange your current one with a new one over the mail (Maybe for a bit more money). That would keep both them and At&t happy if they can work out the issue of somebody buying an old, crappy, beaten up iPhone from a friend or eBay for 300$ then getting a brand new one for virtually nothing. That would be an intersting concept, now wouldn't it? I'm going to post a thread about that!

It kinda sucks switching out dvds, but Id probably rather honestly stick with my 8gig cause it forces me to put only the things I really want on it. Its like the 'get rid of your huge wallet with lots of buisness cards you'll never need kinda thing.' Plus a 20 gig will be substantially larger in size.

Exactly. Problem with pretty much all tech devices is that as soon as you get it out of the box, it is out of date as a newer model is out and has more/better features. You can either keep waiting, and waiting and waiting until the perfect device comes along (see problem #1) or be happy with your purchase if it does what you want and live with having an 'old outdated' device or just keep buying the latest and greatest. Nothing you can do and not any reason to complain. Such is the issue with high tech devices.
