Hi:

My name is Russ Jacobson, i am a long time mac user (currently a intel core duo iMac) and iPod user (60 GB video). For my PDA phone I am currently using a Treo 700 p with my Mac and love it, but look forward to consolidating my phone and iPod someday.

For now I am stuck in a year and half contract for Treo so it would be expensive to buy. I need more space than version 1 will offer (already have 15GB on my iPod). I also need better rural coverage away from main highways/interstates than ATT (Cingular) offers. I do have to have my phone work. So for now I am sticking with Verizon which works well with my work out west (digging dinosaurs) and other geological fieldwork. But I sure hope to have a next generation iPhone with all this resolved one day. And will be on here reading and learning.

Thanks

Russ Jacobson

Russ-
Welcome to Everything iPhone. As a Treo owner, I'm guessing you might have come over to visit from Everything Treo. Glad to have you aboard. There is a lot of interest among Treo owners and smartphone owners in general. It should be an interesting summer to say the least.

BTW, you might want to remove your email address from your signature. That could be a target for spambots.

Breaking cell contracts can be expensive and not something I'd recommend. However, let's say it's $150 to break your contract. I'm guessing you could easily recoup that by selling your Treo 700p. Again, not recommending this, but it would be an option. I'd be sure the iPhone is everything you need in a smartphone before making that jump.

Thanks, yep it has been a fun career. I am retiring next month but still will be emeritus and do dinosaur stuff in summer.

Hi Chris, Thanks for welcome. Yes I believe I found the original link from ET, and have just now gotten back to EI. Thanks for advice on sig, I use it that way in email also. That email address has generated so much spam because it was up on website years before I put up a form for dinosaur site. So address is pretty compromised but University has alot of spam filters. I like to leave it up for people to find me but maybe i this case can just remove.

I probably will wait like you suggest, but will watch things with interest.
