Ok I don't get it my Battery Sucks, Ok I keep my Brightness at around 10-15 Percent. I was on Wifi alot today, maybe 3 of those hours was on wifi surfing the net listening to some music, but damn Why 4 hours? I mean I expect atleast 6 hours of heavy usage. What do you guys think? I see alot of People posting 8+ hours and saying they are using it alot, What do you all think about my battery?

Btw have 10 hours of standby

That seems much worse than normal. I'm getting three days now with moderate use and at least two days with heavy use.

man don't tell me that....argh...actually the last couple of days I been checking and after like 6 hours of usage and 24 hours of standby my phone will die...and it was moderate use...wtf...are you talking about usage time or standby time? also without having it plugged in?

I'm gonna call apple tommorow, I really want my iPhone repaired rather then replaced.

no. He took my credit card info to charge $1 to be reimbursed upon return of the loaner. Very quick and painless process. You should definitely call!

Fred, I just exchanged my iphone on Saturday and got a brand new 7 series. I had 3 days of standby, 7 hours usage and then my 20% came on. That's all after the first initial charge. I used 3 hours phone, 2 hours watching videos, 1 hour writing emails, text, checking mail, and 1 hour of safari browsing.

well if you listen to music while on the internet at the same time, then of course it will die faster
that sounds just about right. i dont know what people are complaining about, but my cellphone battery only died once every 4-5 days
with alot of hours on standby and up to 11 hours of use. its pretty good if you ask me
unlike those other cellphone i got, iphone lasted for the longest.
those other phones i have will die in like 5-6 days without being touch, and iphone die in 4-5 days WITH alot of usage

I dont know if anyone else is having this issue but ever since I did the firmware upgrade my usage stats are really crazy. I probably used my phone about 6-8 hours total but in the usage stats it says 1+ day (it was reset when I did the firmware update). Even when my phone is "sleeping" its like its being used now for some reason.

i had my first problem with battery life yesterday. seriously, my battery has been f-ing great until yesterday. after what i would call minimal usage, my phone was just about dead at 6:00pm. i pulled it off the charger fully charged (at least i thought it was at) 8:00am. i don't keep track of usage stats or anything, but with being at work and only checking stocks and email occasionally throughout the day i'm used to my battery being maybe half full by the end of the work day. yesterday it was almost all gone.

i'm hoping it was just an isolated incident, but i'll keep track today and see what happens. I made sure that my phone charged all the way to "glowing" status before pulling it off the charger to make sure i was getting an accurate read.

I'm using my iPhone now...

Last time it was on the dock was Tuesday night. My usage stats don't work, but I'd say I've used it "moderately"... Wifi for about an hour, lots if text messaging, two hours iPod use (music), 2 short phone calls, a few calendar alerts and appointments, using notes (15 minutes) and some email.

My battery is still showing about 50% charged.

You could try charging through the wall, from what I have read so far some people only get it a variety of different ways. Some people can only get it through the wall, some only through the USB charger. Personally the only way my battery shows 100% fullness is by charging through my iMac.

YES I DO. I even get the glowing battery bar when it’s fully charged. Charge it on airplane mode and wait till you get the plug on battery meter on the upper right hand side. This is the best way I think for the phone to get fully charged.

I never see the glowing "full" battery, but i do get the plug on the upper right icon. I also never see the top stats. I just get dashes there since the phone doesn't think it's fully charged.

Is there a way to know the percentage of battery life left prior to it notifying you that there is 20% left?

Here’s a trick that has worked for me.

- Put your iphone in airplane mode. (Please don’t skip this process and just try it out)

- Charge your iphone through your computer with the usb cable.

- If you see the plug in the upper right hand side and don’t see the glowing "FULL" battery, unplug your usb connection and connect it again.

- You will now see that the plug on the upper right hand side has changed back to the lighting icon which means that it is once again charging.

- Hopefully when it gets back to a plug icon (might take another 5, 10 or 20 minutes for it to appear again) you'll see a "full" glowing battery. It won’t be glowing that much but you’ll see that battery is now filled all the way.:2cool:

Please let me know whether this works for you or not.

Same here. I am currently charging my phone and my usage time is at 9 hours 12 mins. The problem is I can’t tell if I actually have been using my phone for that long because the longest user charge that I've gotten before the update was about 6 to 7 hours. The update must have done something to those stats.

how long from 50% or so does it take to get the plug?

if you accidentally leave it charging all night, will that decrease battery life?

My battery is inconsistant. I start work at 7:00am and usually at noon I still have a full battery. On other days though, it will be at like 30% at noon. I tend to use it consistantly, so I don't know why the battery is so inconsistant. I wonder if some application is running in the background to drain the battery.? It would be nice if there was an application to show you the status of the other applications.

I’m not sure about this coz I’ve never charged my phone when it's just at 50%. I always charge it when the indicator turns red which is at least at 20%. I think it takes me a couple of hours to achieve a full charge, probably about 2 ½ to 3 hours. One thing I've notice though is that it seems to have gotten faster to fully charge the phone now that I’ve updated it version 1.0.1. Of course I've done it just once and it might very well just be in my head.:laugh2:

if you accidentally leave it charging all night, will that decrease battery life?
No it will not decrease your battery life. Apple claims that it will take 300 to 400 charge cycles before you notice a decrease in quality. 1 cycle equals 1 full charge. If you charge your phone at 50% that equals half a cycle.

Here's a note to think about people. Just looking at the time real quick will add a few minutes to the usage bar. This is because if you hit sleep wake/hom button and turn the phone on (even locked) Programs in the background begin to run. The WiFi relocates itself and turns on for one.

So people using the phone CONSTANTLY like using safari for 2 hours STRAIGHT will notice worse battery life when comparing to statistics, but in reality it'll be the same. I've noticed this a lot. By the end of my day at work I'm usually right around 5 hours of use and that really doesn't matter how much I actually used it. I know some days I'll be on the iPhone using AIM and surfing the web and a day like today I was busy and barely used it. Guess what the usage was almost the same, but today I have a lot more battery left.

If you will read one thing here read this: The division between two people and their battery life is two fold.

1.) The brightness and USAGE of the screen.

2.) The average strength of the cell towers you use all day.

Everything else is potatoes (don't get me wrong here we are comparing IDENTICAL phones). I'm not going to research evidence because I know, and people should know this as being the truth when using laptops. Ever leave your phone in a basement with little signal for a night....I know I had with a variety of phones and basements and what happened to that battery??

Sorry to put that in bold, but it's the truth, more people are concerned about that usage bar then how they really use their phone. Someone who whips it out every 10-15 minutes vs. someone who doesn't touch their phone may have the usage due to the e-mail being checked often. Get it?

I performed a battery test on my iphone today and I was very pleased with the results since I have been concerned with the info on these forum. I got mine on iday:)

Here are my final results:
usage- 9 hr 2 min
standby- 18 hrs 5 mins

Details:
Wifi off during business hours 8-5
Wifi on at home after 5
Manual check email (this seems to hlep a lot with my bat life)
Autobrightness on, brightness around 35%

Tasks:

Maps (edge)- 15 mins
Ipod music- 1.5 hrs
WiFi Internet - 2.5 hrs (got Sirius streaming finally!)
Ipod video- 4 hrs ( i just let Terminator 2 play a couple times with headphones plugged in)
Phone calls - 20 mins
Email- checked 3 times (edge) 2 accounts, yahoo and 1 pop3

After 9 hrs 2 min the phone was Completely dead. I am a happy camper. Also with check mail manually my yahoo mail still gets pushed to me:)

Dude, this is the FIRST TIP that actually worked... though I'll say it had nothing to do with airplane mode (I always charge with WiFi and BT off anyway). I DID indeed skip that step ;)

But this morning after my iPhone had been on the charger all night it was showing fully charged in the small battery, but not in the big battery... and no usage stats. I did a hard reset first. Then I unplugged the USB cable from the computer and replugged it back in (while leaving the iPhone in the dock). 5 minutes later, it was showing fully charged in small battery, but not large...

BUT, I DID indeed have usage stats for the first time since buying the phone!

Of course, I'm not sure if they are right or not... LOL... I felt like I used the phone quite a bit today. Was texting off and on all day. Made 2 phone calls. Checked out Google Maps for a bit. Did some e-mail. I do sleep the phone the minute I'm done doing anything though.

Usage: 1 hour, 26 minutes
Standby: 15 Hours, 26 minutes

Battery shows about 80-85% charged still.

Thanks for your tip!

ok fellas, here are my stats for today. I need your expert opinions to know if this is an issue

At the 10% mark i had:
4 hrs 23 mins of usage
14 hrs 50 mins of standby

I manually check emails. I keep autobright off and my screen at a very low level (15-20%) but i have WiFi on most of the day. I'm going to try turning off WiFi tomorrow to see if it helps but after reading some other stats i dont think I'll get to some of the higher numbers.

Your thoughts? Thanks.

Damn I'm jealous, I wonder if I should do a restore, fully drain battery or get a new phone :/

I'm glad that I was able to help you out. But now how will you know if the airplane mode does not help in achieving the battery "glow" I say give it a try and see what happens.

posting live from Geisha House in Hollywood... I'm super DRUNK and my usage is 2:46 usage and 11:44 standby. It looks like WiFi is a HUGE battery killer. Keep it off until you need it.

Right now I have like 99% battery left. WiFi is a killer!!

update...usage is at 3:37 standby at 16:56 and the battery has not budged...it literally looks fully charged. Moral of the story kiddies? If you want your battery to last keep the WiFi off when not in use.

Damn WTF ? My wifi is always off, auto dim off and so on, and by the time I'm at 5 hours useage and like 16 standby my battery is almost at the 20% looks wise but never quite hits ita, overall its low not reading full!

Just a quick update to my battery issue. I left the phone uncharged for well over a day. I was shocked to see my stats at nearly 6 hours of usage and over a day and a half of standby...and my battery still showed 100%.

it sounded too good to be true...and it was. one second my battery was full and the next i got the 10% power warning..not even the 20%!

anyone else experience this?

well I thought I had a had battery because I would get like 5 hours of usage and would have to charge it every night...

Now... My battery has last almost 3 days and I'm still using it! I'm prob. At 5 hours of usage but still! I think thats good. :)
