Well this is my idea. I'm going to turn the iPhone I buy into a kick ass iPod. Reason being, I do not want to use it as a phone. I use the cricket network because it's unlimited everything. I'm not using AT&T because I can't afford it. Anyways tell me what you guys think about this. I'm gonna use my iPhone as a kick ass iPod...
Hopefully iFuntastic will come out for windows. Because if it does I'd love to arrange my icons so it's not like a iPhone anymore. Take out the phone icon. And take out the SMS, weather, and Stocks icon. Use it as an iPod, surf the web within wifi, and all other programs other than a phone. Personally, it's worth the $500 as a phone. I still think it's worth buying for myself without the phone part.

you cannot use your iphone as anything until you register for a plan.
The iphone ipod idea is destroyed by att they make you pay for a plan, read the contract =)
unless they changed it which I doubt they would, they aren't stupid apple isn't anyways

lol there are two methods already out to activate the iPhone.
1. use a program released that simulates AT&T activation.
3. Activate it through AT&T. Then cancel it within 3 days for a refund of the activation fee.

Can't afford AT&T but you can afford a $500-$600 phone??? I'm confused.

It's mainly due to unlimited minutes and texting. Me and my women talk a lot during the day.
900 minutes plus 1500 texts = $90 a month
unlimited everything of cricket = $50 a month
My situation Cricket > AT&T
Anyways, I have a strong feeling Apple will not come out with a iPod that has capabilities such as wifi and camera. It will probably have the same basis as the 5G now, but only a widescreen, touchscreen iPod.
Hell if someone figures out how to hook up a keyboard to it, this will completely replace my laptop.

Right. You're going to make a 'kick ass' iPod with only 8Gb storage.
Why don't you, oh I on't know, by an actual iPod?

5G 30gig Video.
It can't surf the web, can't take pictures, can't take down quick reminders, can't store programs and other files, can't play widescreen movies.

Many people are already doing this. Many of them live in other countries, so they had zero intention of using it with AT&T.

Thats what happens when you jump to conclusions and respond so negative, when not knowing your facts. :laugh2:

Already knew about the simulation, but then again, it's still kind of ****ty how at & t + apple make it so that you aren't able to use it as what you want, but they try to control you with their product. I wasn't shooting him down, yet stating that the contract states you need to have a contract.
The 2 ways of bypassing it are ways of you defeating apple + att and rub it in their faces but, they still get the 600 dollars out of you so I honestly don't understand why they just don't let you do what you wanted to do in the first place, they make plenty of commission.

Going to the Apple store tomorrow to check out the iPhone. I pretty much know exactly how to hack the **** out of it too, which I will be doing.
This won't be a phone anymore when I'm done with it.

An actual iPod doesn't have the screen that the iPhone does. Eventually, I am going to buy a second iPhone just to use as an iPod. I already have a 30 GIG iPod but it's missing one very nice feature.

And 8 GB of storage is plenty because I don't need nearly all my 4000 songs, or 20 movies on there at once.
A couple movies, a handful of family guy/south park videos, and 400 songs is definitely plenty.
Plus I've heard nothing but positive about the screen.

I have 700 songs, 3 full length movies and 667 MB left.

When the iPhone was announced I was thinking how nice it would be to have it without the phone but then I got to thinking how nice it would be to have all the portable capabilities I need in a single device. The reason I never got an iPod is that I knew I'd never bother carrying it around with me.
I have about 20 CDs, 1 full length movie, 5 30 minute episodes, 200 pictures, 50 or so contacts and a full calendar on an 8GB and still have just under 4GB left.

I thought the iPhone didn't even have the battery life to survive one movie?

It doesn't have the battery life to survive one movie.. It actually has the battery life to survive FOUR!!! Where are you getting your information?? Never in my life have I owned anything that lasted so long, with so much power, on such a small tiny battery. I am amazed every day at the battery life.
So you basically thought wrong. You would be pretty impressed at the battery life. Usually after a full day of usage I have used about 1/3 of the battery, and when I get home and sync to update my podcasts and stuff its usually nearly charged again after a small period of time connected to my laptop.
