I ended up buying a Jawbone last week since I can't wait for the Apple branded Bluetooth anymore and just hoped that I will not be disappointed that I did it when the Apple one comes out and it has a lot of "advanced" features compared to the Jawbone.

Oh well, looks liked i didn't miss anything :2cool:

Too much money to spend on a BT headset. My wifes BT headset messed up so I went to BestBuy and got her a very nice BT headset for $29.99. I can't see spending $129.99 just because you also get a charger base.

Yeah I am digging this as well. I will wait till I see a review of the headset itself. I don't like how there is nothing that goes over your ear, so it just hands on your ear hole. I also want to see if it blocks out sound that is around you like the jawbone does.

I figured that much, I want to see if it does a small bit. Hopefully. We will see. Cause right now I am completely leaning towards the jawbone. What is nice about this headset is the dock and being able to see the actual charge of the headset.

This thing looks very uncomfortable much like the earbuds that come with the iphone/ipod. I would have to try it out and see. Lets hope someone puts a performance review up soon.

And I got my Jawbone for $80 from tiger direct's amazon store weeks ago! And let me tell you, this is how a non-A2DP Bluetooth headset is supposed to work. Sounds better than the phone does. Hmm. With the jawbone you can redial the last call by clicking twice. With just about every Bluetooth headset you have the same functionality. Does the $130 Apple headset have this function? How about active noise cancellation? Hmm.

My $80 jawbone's looking purty darn good about now.

I decided to buy the Jawbone. I like the styling and the noise cancelling is amazing.

I use my headset mostly in the car, and the people on the other side of the conversation say it makes a huge difference, especially when I have the windows down. Plus, I am very selective about these types of units since I find most of them to be very uncomfortable to wear. The Jawbone has a nice fit that I can wear for extended periods and not get tired of it.

Apple headsets don't generally have the best design.

I have to say it's pretty nice! A bit smaller than I imagined. call quality is fine, and volume is much louder than the earpiece (and speakerphone of course!) I like the fact that there is no loop over the ear - no branding when on (simple apple logo on the inner side facing your face) and the fact that when docked - the charging status of the phone and headset are shown on the phone screen.

14 day return policy and no restocking fee means I'll give it a good going over, then make a final decision. Jawbone for me was just too clunky looking. I prefer small and stealthy - given a choice.

i have one on hold for me today that i am going to pick up after work. i went last week to but a spare dock(have 2 cables so i have the dock plugged into the wall where i charge my phone but wanted another dock for my computer). the dock is 50 bucks and the lady at apple recomended i wait for the headset because it comes with a dual charging dock . so in reality your spending 80 bucks for this headset if its coming with the 50 dollar dock.... ill give it a shot and especially if its a 14 day return no restocking fee im all over it.

is AT&T going to be carrying these?

I intend to buy the Apple Bluetooth headset -- mostly because of the dock/charge cable and small size. Unfortunately, my local Apple Store (Jordan Creek, West Des Moines) decided to close for renovations this week. They won't reopen until Saturday. D'oh! What an inopportune time!

There have been a number of folks on this BT forum (you know who you are) who claim to have had the Apple BT headset for weeks....

Maybe they would like to share their long term view of using it

Seeing as how they beat the official release day by such a wide margin.... :gasp:

As for my thoughts - Apple BT Headset - love the look, pity it has no noise canceling - expensive compared to other sets

I have used Sony Erricson, Motorola, Nokia, Jabra and now Jawbone - and the Jawbone is currently the best of the crop.

When you say the call quality is "fine"...can you be more specific? Is it tinty, soft, etc? how does it compare to the sound quality of the jawbone?

thx

Caller sounds very loud and clear through the headset. I called my home phone and left a voicemail with windows down - up w/air con blowing - and windows up-a/c off. All were easy to hear and understand when I played back the VM. The earbud fits my ear fine (I have smallish ears) and I don't need the foam cover doodads. The headset stays flush against my face and as I said in my initial post is quite small and unobtrusive.

I myself passed on the jawbone because it was just too big for my liking. I'm not one to like having things stuck on my face anyway, so I went with the Apple unit. I'm sure the jawbone sounds better, but I'm not willing to walk around looking like a Borg.

It does not have much in the way of controls - one press to answer - another to hang up - volume must be controlled by the phone itself - but it pairs when plugged into the dock or cable - is well made (aluminum body w/plastic earbud-metal mesh) and you can't beat the charging image on the screen of the phone when they are both docked!

I bought the Jawbone a couple of weeks ago, but none of the combinations of earpieces works in my ears (I even tried a set of the Jabra eargels). I'm going to have a custom earpiece made for the Jawbone through www.averysound.com.

I just wonder how comfortable these will be.

I have the Jabra JX10, which is an in-ear bluetooth and I like it better than the around the ear kind I've had before. I am hard of hearing and the in-ear helps a bunch.

I just picked mine up yesterday when I heard some stores had them. I called the northpoint, ga store to see if they had any in stock and they held one back for me without me even asking, which I thought was great.

The way the phone pairs with the headset is fantastic and couldn't be easier. It also fits very well in my ear without the foam thingys. Not sure about the sound quality yet. The few times I have used it didn't sound good on my end and I had to keep the iPhone close, but I need to use it more before I figure out if I got a bad on or if it just isn't any good.

Do you also find the Apple earbuds to be comfortable?
I'm trying to gauge how the fit might be for someone who does not likw the fit of the earbuds.
Would you say it's comparable or different?

SmartAlx

Ok.

$130 for the Apple one that has the ability to charge with the same dock and USB cable alongside the iPhone. Also includes a graph, right?

$120 for the Jawbone that has very good noise cancellation and can redial the last number.

I still choose the Jawbone. Better AND cheaper.

And I wouldn't really call my $80 price a "hookup" price. I got it from Tigerdirect's Amazon store. That's a legitimate retailer, not some fly by night back of the truck shady dealer. I got it brand new. It came with full warranty and return privileges.

It's also worth noting that since you can't get the apple headset from anywhere but Apple (am I right?) that it sort of nullifies this "apples to oranges" argument. That gives the Jawbone yet another advantage: you can buy it on sale brand new from a reliable 3rd party for less than retail.

im willing to bet you purchased a refurb without even knowing it . i for one know the cost on that headset new(i work for AT&T) and that price reflects a refurb. no doubt the jawbone is an amazing headset. but again i wanted a second dock for the phone . that would have been 50 bucks , so price the iphone which comes with a travel charger , a dual dock for the iphone and headset. id say for the headset its self its a good price. the plantronics 665 is the same price and its talk/standby times are much worse , and it has an ear guard . the jawbone is the only headset with active noice canceling so you cant really compare it to anything else.

actually, at $51, the apple bt headset is a bargain. Especially since its designed specifically for iPhone. Let's break it down:
$129 for the "iPhone bt headset"
-$49 for the dual dock
-$29 for the travel cable
=$51 for the actual headset
I'm quite happy with mine so far, especially since iPhone itself didn't come with an actual phone headset. I also love the fact that its the newer in-ear style and doesnt require the dorky looking over the ear loop! That was the killer for me with the jawbone.

I think I felt the same. I picked the Apple Bluetooth up today on a fluke at the Apple Store. The new ear buds always fall out of my ears, so I was less that positive about this one. At first the boom part kept dropping down. That was because I tried it without the earpiece cover. For me the difference was the padding. The headset stays in my ear, and doesn't fall out, doesn't even move. I have just returned the Jawbone. I know the sound is better on that unit, but for me comparing the two, Apple wins hands down.

I was VERY lucky and picked up the last one at the Las Vegas Apple store. There was almost a fight over it! But the Doc is SO fast on the draw ha ha ha. Anyway, in my opinion it is smaller than what I've seen and the quality is better than what I expected, knowing that it did not have noise-canceling features. It fits snugly in MY ear and I've shaken my head violently trying to shake it off with no avail. I think I might of hurt myself, but it stayed on without it even shifting. People's ears are different, and this will not fit everybody. I'm just glad it fits mine! Thumbs up so far, well worth the $129.

OK, just got one tonight and have not had time to really put it to use, but the one thing that I really want to let everyone know is that it totally feels like you have nothing in your ear, and it does not come loose easily.

I absolutely dislike the stock Apple earbuds because they constantly come loose. This bluetooth headset is so comfortable that it does not feel like you're wearing anything. It's very light.

Stays in place like nobody's business. I put it in and shook my head and it did not move, at least that I could tell.

I made one call, got voicemail. Volume is much louder than the handset speaker. So I don't know how I sounded on the other end.

I will post more later when I have a chance to use it more, but wanted to let those who have trouble with the Apple headset staying in place know that this is totally different. It has a totally different feel.

This thing is pretty cool though. Small, no obnoxious glowing LED, and the fact that as you're charging, a pic of the headset shows above the battery on the iPhone, showing the charge status of the headset as well.

So far, so good.

I have been a bluetooth headset user for years. The biggest problem I have with all the headsets I have used is 1. range and 2. sound quality.

So far I have purchased a moto 820, 850, h700, a plantronics 655, and a jawbone. The motos suffered from poor range and sound quality, however the h700 was the best of the bunch. The plantronics had better sound quality but the fit was uncomfortable for an in-ear, non-ear loop headset and the battery was terrible. I bought the plantronics for the size but the quality marred its overall rating for me.

I guess I look at the apple being very similar to the plantronics, however i have not tried the apple headset.

The jawbone is the first headset I have used that actually works. People don't know I am on a headset and they don't keep asking me to repeat myself. There is also NO crackling associated with this headset that I have found with all other headsets.

I guess I am over the cool looking part of bt and just want something that works flawlessly like it is supposed to. I paid 93 dollars for my jawbone, with tax in NY it was 102. This was sealed new from cingular at a local retailer 6ave electronics. They tried to charge me 140 with tax when I told them that their website said 93. They gave it to me for that price. Hope this helps people who are on the fence about jawbone vs. apple headset.

Okay it arrived today. First impressions:

1. It's snug, yes, but the end of the headset (where the on/off button is) scratches my ear unless I angle the headset about 45 degrees.
2. There's static on every call though it is intermittent, even though I have the phone placed on my hip pocket on the same side as the headset.
3. There is a significant hiss from the headset while on a call, that is separate from the hiss inherent in the phone signal itself.

So far I'm not thrilled with it. I'm going to continue to evaluate it over the weekend and decide whether to keep it or not. I don't know at this point whether an exchange will fix the problems I am finding.

Edited to add: Okay it's going back. Terrible interference/stutturing on EVERY call. Cannot hear the other person at times. Switched to my earbuds in the middle of the call and was amazed at the significant improvement of volume and clarity, even with only one earbud in. I haven't decided whether to exchange it or return it. I really wanted to like it.

I've been wanting to upgrade phone for a long time and last Thanksgiving at the Early Bird sale at Staples I picked up a Plantronics 340 Earpiece. I knew nothing about it but the price was right and I knew I'd want one when I ever got a bluetooth phone.

So I've been hunting that sucker since iDay around the office here and it finally turned up yesterday.

Dang if I didn't luck into a good purchase cause it works great, feels great on the ear and now I see gets good reviews.

Only one day so far but very pleased for now. Finally I have something volume related with the iPhone that I cannot run at full volume!!!!!!!

Looking around I see they are in the 40-60 buck range. I know I paid less than that.

Ordered one from apple store a couple of weeks ago. Shipped out end of last week by FedEx straight from china (China-->Hong Kong-->Anchorage-->me).

Sound quality on the other end is HORRIBLE!! They beg me go go to the handset. Also, lots of static.

Just called apple and was told their were some "issues" with some of the units and they set up an exchange with no problems.

Anyone else recieve a defective unit?

velvetropeparty
08-03-2007, 11:59 AM
I am on my second Apple Bluetooth Headset. I THOUGHT it was a defective unit, but I think it is just really bad design (coming from a Apple fanboy)

I CAN NOT put the phone in any pocket, or even in a holster. The range directly out from the head is about 4 feet, Down is about 2 feet tops.

Volume is not an issue at all, but t breaks up real bad with the phone anywhere but near my head. Callers ask me to go to handset on nearly every try.

I also checked that it was not the phone. I have a Jawbone (which I hate for a number of reasons: clunky, not good for small flat ears like mine (takes like 15 seconds just to get it on), etc) and the range on it is great. I also have an old HS810, and it works good too.

SOOOO, I have a B&O Earset 2 on the way. I am not big on its design either, but Ideal would be WIND noise reduction (supposedly the B&O does well with this, the Jawbone SUCKS at it) AND small size like the Apple.

I personally think people look like dorks with earpieces and blue lights flashing all the time...very ghetto.

Long story short, my second Apple headset is going back today. I hate that I have to return it!!!!

ATT*Mark

let me know if you get charged a restocking fee , i personally dont like mine too much . it fits me good and pairs with the phone great. but call volume fluctuates too much . some people are really loud and i have to turn it down. some i have to turn all the way up THEN HAVE TO SWITCH TO THE PHONE BECAUSE THE PHONE IS LOUDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i might take mine back im not sure yet.

I just picked my Apple BT headset yesterday. And so far so good. The fit is good, the sound quality is good. The people I talk to say they can here me very well.

In some cases I do get some slight dropouts/static as the phone moves farther away, but in others I can walk as far as 15-20 ft away from the phone and it still sounds crystal clear.

There are so many variables when it comes to wireless technology and it all depends on where you are at the time.

Tomorrow will be the first real business day usage....I'll report back after I give it the ole' one-two. But my first impressions are: B+

I bought mine yesterday.:laugh2:
After reading all your reviews I decided to give it a try. The setup was done in no time. Sound quality is great. Distance wise. I live in a two bedroom apartment. I'm able to leave the Iphone on its dock, and walk around the apartment answering calls. Once again, I can't complain about the sound quality. I still have to try it in my car. I have a convertible roadster, so wind factor is important to me. We’ll see.

Just got mine from Fedex this morning.

Can't complain so far other than the usual static noise in the background...

Ok, I got mine this morning. So far I have no complaints over the volume, fit, or distance that I can go away from the iPhone. It is as good as my other bluetooth sets.

It's SO small.:2cool: I never thought that I would say this about a bluetooth headset, but I now am afraid I will lose it easily. I did, however, order it for it's size (I hate large things hanging on the side of my head). My son commented about the size, he said "Dad, it's so small, people will think that you are talking to yourself". Oh well, they would be right with or without the headset.

Price was a little high, but the size makes up for it!?

Maybe the next Apple bluetooth will be able to be implanted. Did I say how SMALL it is?

So today was the first real day with the Apple BT Headset. I have to say, out of all the BT headsets I've owned, and believe me I've owned plenty. This one is a keeper. Mind you, all BT headsets have their probs and this one is no exception.

But overall, sound quality is good, ranged is good, style is real good, so light, so sleek.

I met with a guy today who had a Jawbone, I set it next to the Apple BT headset and it looked like some sort of prehistoric dinosaur.

So I say buy one!

I am not sure I have a defective headset or not, but should the battery drop down from a full charge beginning at 4:00 pm today to roughly 2/3 of a charge left as of 9:00 pm? The other day I was trying to take a call with it and the battery was completely gone after charging it up the previous day. I probably made about less than 30 minutes of calling. The only thing I thought could have gone wrong was that I found a small headphone case that snaps to close over the headset, which seemed like a tight fit. I thought that maybe I put too much pressure on the button causing it to lose the charge while in the case? Today's problem happened while it was out of the case and sitting in standby mode. Does this seem normal or is my battery defective?

i went through 2 headsets and i was surprised at how bad the background noise and static was! for now, i'm stickin' with hbh-660. So far, nothing has been able to compare to it. I ALMOST bought the jawbone, but the $120 kinda swayed me away, though I had dropped $139.00 (after tax) on the apple.

I will say, it was pretty comfortable, and it was cool to have the dual dock, and the battery display. The size was incredible. The only thing unsatisfactory to me was the sound quality. Though plenty and more than enough loud, that hum was driving me nuts!!! :tounge:

I got mine this morning. Thing is awesome. I love it. Its loud clear not one bit of static on it. I can walk from room to room in my house with no disconnection. Thing is hot. I love that I can switch from my right ear to my left ear. Def good feature. Paired in 2 seconds, no screwing around with holding things in and typing in a code. And the graphic on the phone when they are both paired is awesome. Just a good product. Plus you get an extra set of cords and a dock. Good Stuff Apple!

So, are you guys that are satisfied, telling me that you can put the phone in your pocket (vertical distance, not horizontal), and you get no cut outs and clear sound? I went through two units as discussed before, and both acted the same way (tested the phone, it is fine)

And of those that are satisfied, when did you get them? Maybe the 1st batch was bad?

I am in the same boat as you. I went through two headsets as well and was not pleased by the sound quality. To those of you who love it, how far up do you have the volume turned up?

I just got mine today 8/8/07 from the apple store. Mine works just fine in my pocket i was using it their all day. No cut outs. I walked down the street with it in my pocket and it sounded just as good as it ever did. Maybe it was because of a different batch. My Uncle got one too same thing works good.

I just wish I could get the dumb thing to stay in my ear. It falls out very, very easily.

I am very disappointed. I took it back. It's useless to me, sadly.

Anyone know of a small, fairly robust case to keep the Apple Bluetooth in? Don't want to lose it nor have it damaged in the pocket. If already a thread on this please direct me to it.

What I've been doing for my iPhone ear phones and adapter is using empty "Altoids" chewing gum tins. If that's to small, get the one for the full size mints.
