Mac Emulator for PC [Archive]

Well, the get a better understanding of the iPhone and MAC file structures and functions (need to edit that damn plist file) I guess I'll try an emulator and install OS X on my PC. Has any done this and what Emulator do you prefer or use? I am looking at trying PeerPC.

OSX for powerPC will run extremely slow on your PC. Best to get OSX for Intel and run that under VMWare. However, Apple will not let you do that... there are copies of osx that have been patched to load on intel based pc's..but its hit or miss if it will recognize all your hardware components.

get a mac and run osx and windows on it. that's totally supported. in fact you could run linux too. ubuntu is a great linux distro.

I have been a PC guy since the 80286 and 2400 baud modem, so getting a MAC is like taking the first step. I would like to Emulate it first and get to know it. Speed isn't a factor at this time (I'm used to Windows), since all am trying to do at this time is understand the file types and structure of the iPhone. I'll research the OSx86 some more today. As for vmware, I haven't been able to determine what product I actually need. Fusion seems to be for MAC runnning Windows.

There is a wiki floating around to build Max OS X on a Intel box, google it. You can emulate it also using Pear PC, it is a bit slow. I just purchased a Mini Mac at work to play around with and do the little bit of Mac and linux stuff I need to do.

I was a PC guy since 8088 and even earlier thanks to some of the fly boys at Nellis AF base and area 51; so I started with a mac mini ... then an iMac and then a MacBookPro... so watch those first steps... :gasp:

I like to thank everyone for there responses. I am going to go with the OSx86 on http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page . This should give me an idea on how well I will be able to access the iPhone files and edit them. If all works out fine I will try to get my hands on a used MAC mini.

I will find it hard to leave my PC's behind, but will grow respect for what Apple has done.

The iPhone to me and the endless modification that can be done will make this on off the best Computer/Cell Phone I have ever seen.

I will report back on how it worked out.

Woah, OS INSIDE OS. I knew you could boot to multiple ones, but I haven't heard of this.

I was lost on what product to use on vmware. I just got the new version of uphuck v1.4. Getting ready to install as we speak.

Well, after days of installing and reinstalling and countless hours of research I finally have a working copy of OSx86 10.4.10 running. I had no trouble installing 10.4.9 Uphuck, but most of the trouble ended up with trying to upgrade to 10.4.10 (needed for iPhone) was the video driver. Just like Windows I got used to the Blue Screen of Death.

I have no issues with speed with OSx86, which seems to be running faster than Vista. I will need to get used to all the new terminal commands in OSX and permissions. I do like OSX, but find that it's little basic and seems to missing some of the basic features I am used to.

I ended up with what I needed, which was to be able to edit plist files. I still have not been able to obtain DEV tools, but should be able to find what I need in the next couple of days.

I would like to thank everyone for there advice and all of the forums I have search in the last couple of days that have help me to make this possible. It's forums like this one that make it possible for people like me to expand there knowledge.

I have been using the OSX86 emulation for a long time. The lastest patched build I could ever find was 10.4.6 and it runs native on my computer on another hard drive. I was one of the fortunate ones that everything worked even the resolution. The only think I can't get to work is when I connect Iphone to it and try to sync it up with Itunes. At that point it wants version 10.4.10 of Mac osx and we don't have that yet to run native on my pc hard drive. That would be fun to try.
