cant get non-att texts

even after getting a text saying that my iphones been fully activated im still unable to get texts from non-att customers. i talked to att customer service and they dont know what it is. they confirmed that the port is complete. talked to a couple of friends who work for cingular and they don't know what it could be either.

any ideas? could it be a problem with the phone? thanks

I just activated my phone and am having the same problem! It's very frustrating. I have no idea what i'm going to do.

my phone started working a little after posting. I called att cs and they sent a couple updates to my phone and had me turn the phone off and on. a couple hours later I started getting all texts. they said it can take up to 72 hours for the phone to be completely activated. good luck w yours.

I was in your exact situation for a couple days, but it starts to work, don't worry. The port of the phone number only takes a few hours but text messaging capabilities could take days to start to be fully functional.

I had a similar issue to you all. When I FIRST got the phone, I couldn't receive ANY out-of-network texts. Then, after a few hours, I staerted to receive text from my friends (the majority of whom have VZW). Then, about 3 days later I stopped receiving out-of-network texts again. I was pretty furious, seeing as SMSing is my main form of communicatio. So I called ATT Wireless and they transfered me to Tech Support who, in turn, transfered me to Apple Tech Support. The long of the short- after 30+ minutes of getting bounced around I finally got my issue resolved! The Apple tech had me do a couple of fixes, so I'm not 100% sure which one did the trick, but I'll list them here so you can all give them a shot and see if you're as lucky with them as I was:

1.) Reset the phone- press and hold the home button and the sleep/wake button until the phone shuts off and the Apple icon reappears (do not let go until you see the Apple logo).

2.) Also, try going into settings>general>rest and select "reset network settings."

Give these two fixes a shot and hopefully it will work out just as well for you.
