In lieu of an official list from Apple, let's start making a master list of iPhone and Bluetooth compatibility. Despite Bluetooth being an open standard, there have been some reports of Bluetooth products not being compatible with the iPhone. These will most likely be resolved in a future firmware update. For now, post here and I'll update the iPhone Bluetooth Compatibility list at the top of this thread. Note: This thread is not for car compatibility. Please refer to the Official thread for your vehicle manufacturer listed below.

Can someone confirm that the BlueAnt Supertooth Light Bluetooth Handsfree Speakerphone actaully DOES work with the iPhone?
I know it is listed here as working, and on their website (www.myblueant.com), it is shown as iPhone compatible, but I am wondering if anyone has actually USED the thing in the real world.
Also, if so, what are your impressions of it? Do you like it?
I am nearing my "frustration breaking point" with bluetooth headsets--mostly because NONE of them will stay in my ear without an earclip and because I detest wearing them--and the one car kit I've tried (the Parrot MiniKit) doesn't work at all. So I am hoping that the BlueAnt kit actually does work.
Thank you.

I ordered one and then was told by Parrot tech support that it will not work with the iPhone.

In lieu of an official list from Apple, let's start making a master list of iPhone and Bluetooth compatibility....
I'll confirm that the HF850 does not work. WiFi on or off, same result. That does NOT make me a happy camper.
I now have 12 days to decide to return it. I'm in my truck a lot, and that car kit makes phone calls bearable for me. I can't (won't) wear a headset either. My point being, is that I spent a small fortune on the iPhone, and I shouldn't have to "settle" to make it usable for me.

I had the same view re headset. But I bought a Moto H-700 for my wife on sale. Tried it and liked it, so I bought one for use with my iPhone. Had it on all day and the only time I realized it was there was when I tried to answer my landline phone and it hit the headset: Oops!
Originally I thought I *couldn't* use a headset, because I'm stone deaf in one ear and cannot block the other one. But the H-700 sits far enough from my ear that it does not block other sounds -- conversations, stereo, sirens, etc.
So I am no longer in the market for a car kit.

Well I went out on Ebay, and found a Samsung WEP410 headset fo CHEAP. I won it for $13.00. Yeah, I was a bit skeptical, but what the hell, with shipping it was only 21.50. I can spare it.
So 10 business days later, it arrived from China. It's in a legitimate box and has legitimate markings to identify (to the best I can tell) that it's not a fake.
If you have read my post about battery issues or Vaja case, then you know my iPhone went out yesterday for battery problems, so I cannot test with the iPhone at the moment, but did test with my Nokia 6620 (still a damn remarkable phone, but the iPhone is just easier to work with).
I charged the headset for 2 hours as it states in the instructions and then paired it with the Nokia.
It's loud!. I mean Really loud, perfect for the car. I walked outside and called my wife and asked her for her impressions of the sound quality. At first she was having difficulty understanding me, but I found out that this phone had the "static" problem many reported with the Apple bluetooth heaset. It is a bit "line of sight". in other words, it cannot transmit well through my body or my head.
Once I had the phone on the same side of my body as the headset, it worked fine. Depending on how it's sitting in my ear, it sounds a little like I am on a speaker phone, but the closer the mic was to my face, the better it sounded - to the point where she could no longer tell I was on the headset.
I then swapped with her and experienced it myself. I think that the transmitter is a little weak, but other than that, it works fine for the car.
I then tested with walking around the apartment, going upstairs, keeping the phone in a central location, and walking away from it.
It worked fine untill I got about 20 feet from it, or behind a door 15 feet from it (hence my stating that the transmitter is weak) then it got static-y/crunchy.
Overall, I give it about a 7 if I was to pay full price for it, a 9 because it was a total of 21.50 shipped.

Hi all-
I have a PLantronics 320 and it paired just fine with the iPhone, but when I used this headset with my Motorola Razr I could walk all over the house without any performance issues. With the iPhone I can get only about 4-5 feet away from the phone before I hear a loud crackling noise.
Anyone experiencing the same issue?
I believe this has something to due with either the bluetooth profile on the phone and or the location of the radio antena in the phone.
It could also be the headset, but since you are citing great performance with another phone, then I would lean towards the profile or hardware of the iphone.
I have the WEP410 headset from Samsung. When it's line of site, it's great and loud. the moment something gets in the way of the 2 devices, it starts to crackle and get static. I believe this is the headset in my case, because it did it with another phone as well.

Two independently verified plug-and-talk car kits that work great:
Motorola T305
BlueAnt SuperTooth Light
I have used both of them (they are actually in my car as I type this) and prefer the Motorola.
To start with, the thing is *T*I*N*Y*!! It is smaller than most flip-style cell phones. Whereas the BlueAnt is much larger.
Also, the speaker in the Motorola is much louder than the one in the BlueAnt.
Anyway, they both work great with the iPhone.

Anyone have similar experiences, or know what I'm doing wrong?

Right now I'm trying to pair my HS850, and it has said searching for the last 5 minutes. This phone is starting to piss me off.
I installed an HS850 in my 2007 Lexus IS250. The iPhone pairs and works, but it is quirky. In order for it to work, I have to press the Voice Dial feature on the HS850 control panel, and then dial the number from the phone. This usually works fine.
What pisses me off about the iPhone, aside from the bitter sting of the price drop that everyone who bought one before 8/22/2007 has felt, is the device's reluctance to get the basics of being a cell phone correct from the start. Sure, it combines a cell phone, iPod, WiFi browser, and digital camera all into one sleek package. But no voice dial? Just about every cell phone has that nowadays. Incompatible with a large number of Bluetooth devices? No Bluetooth syncing of contacts to Outlook? C'mon now, that's just unforgivable for $500.
Oh, and you can't activate it on a business account? That was almost a deal breaker for me, and one I did not learn about until I got it home, opened the box, and made my first attempt to activate the phone.
I know there are a lot of Monday morning quarterbacks out there giving Apple their idea of how to make the iPhone perfect. I'll join those ranks by making my own list:
1. Make iPhone available to business accounts
2. Make iPhone compatible with a wider range of Bluetooth devices
3. Incorporate the advanced BT handsfree features avaiable on any $.01 cell phone
4. allow contacts to be synchronized from PIMs via BT
5. Incorporate a blinking "New Message" LED some where on the phone like Blackberries have
I really don't see how difficult it would be to incorporate these running fixes (except the blinkning LED of course) into subsequent software updates.

After downloading the latest iPhone update, it appears as though the phone works a bit better than it used to in conjunction to the HF850. There is an earlier post that explains how to dial out using the iPhone and HF850 combination, and that works fine.
I can now answer calls by pressing the multi-function button. One caveat: there is about a 6 second delay from the time you press the button to the time when the call is answered. So you have to press it quickly, sit tight, and hope that the caller hasn't given up on you.

I was conflicted about whether to purchase a Pioneer 9800BT (same as the Premier 980BT but without a two year warranty) and an Alpine X001. I went with the Pioneer and added the iPod adapter. That's where my problems began...
First things first: the bluetooth on this unit is junk. I had to repair the iPhone with the headunit every time I either turned off the car, walked sufficiently far enough away from the car, or turned off the headunit. If pairing were easy I wouldn't complain, but it wasn't easy. I had to unpair the headunit from the phone through the iPhone's settings>general>bluetooth menu, then repair the two by having the Pioneer search for the phone while re-pairing the two from the iPhone itself. That's way too much work each time I get in the car (and I'm a pizza delivery driver, so I'm constantly turning off the car, getting out, then returning to the car).
Second thing, and this is the most important: the Pioneer 9800bt melted my iPhone. That's right, MELTED my iPhone :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed:
I had plugged in the iPhone to the iPod adapter and it played music for about ten minutes before faulting. I opened up the glovebox (where the iPhone was stashed) and the screen was covered with colored lines, going horizontal and vertical in a pattern akin to colored TV snow or static. At this point the phone was rather hot. I unplugged it and tried to reset it but nothing happened. After about a minute of holding down the home and off buttons the screen turned off, but the whole while the phone kept getting warmer and warmer. Eventually the iPhone was too hot to hold. I called AppleCare and we tried everything. The phone failed restore then the computer wouldn't ever recognize it anymore. After about 40 minutes the phone began to cool, but it was already too late. It was dead. I headed to the local Apple store and they replaced it for me.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS UNIT (THE PIONEER 980BT / 9800BT)
I decided to go with the Alpine X001 (which I just had installed today), and I haven't regretted it. The navigation is the best out there for the iPod/iPhone. I can answer calls from the iPhone while playing music. I also have a Plantronics 655 bluetooth headset, which I can use to double-tap and redial (so I can make outbound calls in that way). I haven't tried the bluetooth adapter from Alpine (haven't bought it, I should say) as Pioneer successfully turned me off the idea of integrated bluetooth. One thing I can't do is access the phone while it's plugged into the head unit. The screen just says iPhone/iPod accessory, but none of the menus are accessible. Also, I tried to navigate around the iPod interface on the Alpine headunit while on a call I recieved and the unit paused for 10 seconds then went into shuffle mode, playing sound on the headset (plantronics) but not the speakers. Then when I turned off the car, while still on the headset, the iPhone started playing a movie I had on there. I know, I know. Kinda wierd, but nothing is perfect, though this unit is the best for the iPod/iPhone I've yet tried.
-My 2 cents
Anyone in the US played with parrot car kits?
I've got one fitted to a Golf GTI (or I think they are VW Rabbits in US).
Just got a siftware haked iPhone so I can use it in Oz and while it pairs with TomTom 710 (add that to list) I keep gettinga message back from the Parrot saying message is full. The Iphone finds the Parrot, but sits there spinning it's wheels.

I'm using Iphone with Mercedes CLK 2006, with the original Bluetooth adapter and Comand. Everything works fine, except when downloading the address book the '+' sign of international numbers is cut off. Any clue?
I wonder if the Merc kit is made by Parrot? When I get mine going (if) I'll post a response. Somehow I can't see Merc and VW using the same supplier!

It worked great with my old Blackberry phone as late as last week but when I paired it with the iPhone, the battery will no longer hold a charge longer than 12 hours tops. I have had the same problem. Initially I can get the car and phone to "discover" each other, but nothing is retained. I may be able to make one or two calls and then the units lose synchronization. My wife's Motorola Razr V3 works perfectly. I have tried turning off WiFi and all other non needed functions but it never re-syncs without going through the whole "discover" process.
I think it may have something to do with the power saver mode of the iphone. Is there a way to disable this? My wife turned her Iphone back into Apple and refused to activate it. Surprisingly they gave her a full refund. Any thoughts?

I have a question. It may have been covered . I have a Motorola H700 and it works well with my Iphone but sometimes it will unpair itself. If you look in the phone it says its paired but when you open the boom it turns that purplish color like when its not paired. To get it to pair again i have to plug the H700 into the wall charger then unpair it on the phone then repair it.
I went to Santa Ana casino in Albuquerque and it does it everytime i go in there other times it has happened is when i leave my phone laying and walk away from it with my earpiece on the come back to it not always but occasionally
Anyone else had this problem? Anyone know what might be causing it?

Working:
Motorola HS-850
Blue Ant X3 Micro
Sony-Ericsson HBH-660
I just got these:
Bluetrek ST1 (http://www.bluetrek.com/products/st1/index.htm) headphones.
http://www.bluetrek.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=891&g2_serialNumber=2
They work great with both phone and A2DP via an iCombi.
I also have a pair of Motorola S9 headphones. The Bluetrek are similar in design though more 'in ear' than the Motorola S9s. The ST1 switches are easier to operate and the bass response is better.
For normal listening to music and phone/Skype use the ST1s have the edge, however, the Motorola S9s are more secure for using when running/cycling.
The ST1s come with a nice neoprene like case and fold flat for easy carrying around.
I have black ones, the black and white being a bit 'killer whale' ish!

Yes, and until we are able to transfer files, open media and add other programs, I would have to say that my Blackberry 8830 from Sprint which is identical to the 8820 at other providers is the best phone I have EVER owned. The iphone is a very close second but is currently not worth what I paid for it until I can do more with it like add my custom tones to incoming mail and text messages, change the black desktop, send mail from my POP account while the wi-fi is on, have a task manager and view other media besides you-tube. I am waiting for that day to say I got what I paid for.

The Motorola H375 works GREAT with the iPhone. I get at least 30 feet of coverage (if not more at times...even through walls) and if it does lose signal, when I get closer to the phone, it picks it right back up and connects. I got it for $30 at Costco with the earpiece, A/C charger AND car charger. I LOVE this little thing!

So far the Pioneer DEHP700BT works flawlessly for the iphone 3G. All the functions work with it. When listening to a song on the phone and I get a call, it turns on the phone so I can get the call or ignore it. After I'm done, it goes back to playing the song I was listening to. I haven't had a chance to test it out on cd or the radio as I just had it installed yesterday.
Anyone looking for a new CD deck, might want to check this unit out. It also is HD ready if you want to add a HD receiver later on. If I run into any problems, I'll report back. I'll just keep playing with it and see what else it has. One last thing, it's hooked up using the usb cable, and yes, it charges your phones and let's you play at the same time. Yes, the warning about turning on airplane mode comes on, I just cancel it, and it works fine.
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/Source/CD-Players/Premier/DEH-P700BT
Update: It does work when CD or radio is playing, it pause them and let's you pick up the call. It also works with bluetooth if it's not plugged in.

I can confirm that the Plantronics Voyager 855 (stereo bluetooth) works with the iPhone 3g using the infinxx ap23 dongle. I just received the dongle today and finally got it working. I can listen to music, control the ipod and answer calls.

I have an Iphone 3G and I read on the forum where someone has a plantroics voyager 855 and they got the stereo to work. I bought the headset and the headset works fine but the dongle does not work. I have tried pairing the dongle but am not sure how. Any ideas? THANKS!!!

I can confirm that the Plantronics Voyager 855 (stereo bluetooth) works with the iPhone 3g using the infinxx ap23 dongle. I just received the dongle today and finally got it working. I can listen to music, control the ipod and answer calls.
Tip: Although your bluetooth headset may already be paired with your iPhone, you will need to place your headset into pairing mode and pair the dongle with your headset as well.
Thank you for your post.:2cool:
How is the sound quality? Better than the FM transmitters through the radio?
Any way around using a dongle?
I think I remember some posts saying that it was possible to connect to the ipod through visual voicemail?
Thanks again

In lieu of an official list from Apple, let's start making a master list of iPhone and Bluetooth compatibility. Despite Bluetooth being an open standard, there have been some reports of Bluetooth products not being compatible with the iPhone. These will most likely be resolved in a future firmware update. For now, post here and I'll update the iPhone Bluetooth Compatibility list at the top of this thread. Note: This thread is not for car compatibility. OK, so here is my question... What headsets actually use your designated ringtones, pipe the sound of keystrokes etc. to the headset? Am I naive or if they can get the callers voice from the phone to the headset, why not the rest of the sounds... I am not talking about stereo sound for the ipod, just basic phone functions. I have the new Jawbone and it only has its own standard ringtone... garbage if you ask me.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Will IPhones connect via bluetooth to Pioneer car stereos so that you can talk into the bluetooth adaptors mic and hear through the car speakers??

Hi,
I'm new and this is my first message more like a plea for help with how to pair my existing Motorola Bluetooth H700C with the IPhone 3G. Can someone give me step by step instructions as the Apple store where I bought my IPhone said this Bluetooth won't work.
Thanks,

I have not been able to upload my address book on my Mercedes, although it worked perfectly in my Audi. I also just had to restore my Iphone and now it is disconnected from my car. I have forgotten how to connect the two.
Any guidance would be great!
I hope this finds you well.

I have an Iphone 3G and a RR Sport 07. I need to pair it every time I come back to my car if my wife use the bluetooth with her phone. On time it has been paired, all is working. If someone know the solution because my wife will have an Iphone too and we'll need to pair every time.
Thanks
And Happy New Year

I suspect the problem is more likely to be the RR than the iPhones.
We have a mix of 2G and 3G iphones and use 3 cars with BT and don't have to re-pair.
This may sound obtuse, but is it the iPhone that loses the pairing or the car? I know the result is the same but it makes a difference. Can you delete all devices from the RR and the iPhones and then start again?
Thanks for your quick answer. I think it's the RR that lose the pairing because it's still on the Iphone. I have to unpair and repair from Iphone. I'll try to delete from RR and pair again tomorrow. I'll let you know the results. Thanks again and Merry Christmas

I've just bought a Motorola S9 HD with the D650 and paired both of them. The phone part works fine but no music. The headphone is working correctly just that the D650 do not work on iphone. Have a friend in California said that he paired the S9 HD with Infinxx AP23 and everything works. I got one on order from accessoryjack.

Got myself the voyager 855 and ap23 dongle combo. Is any1 facing this bug were you able to solve it, btw i'm using a jailbroken iphone 3g if that matters
1)ap23 and 855 are linked(Bt connection estb) to one another and are linked to the iphone. when you dial out, ipod app is launched and it auto plays your first song in ascending alphabetical order. music plays in the backgrd as you hear the audio from the phone call. has this happened to any1? did you manage to solve it? i've tried repairing , restarting ...doesnt help...

You can add the Jabra BT2020 to that. It works perfectly, connecting was a 5 second job and the sound is great both ways. Super lightweight, so darn comfortable as well.

not expensive either got it at walmart for $30. Here in canada that law of not being able to talk on cell phone in your car will likely become law in the fall. So i will be all set.

Plantronics Voyager Pro. Has great reviews and they are spot on. yea it is ugly and bit large but it is light weight. GREAT volume on both ends. It really shines in noisy environments as the caller can hear you perfectly and you can hear them. Can't wait for bluetooth dialing support in FW 3.1

I have a 3GS, a motorola s9 headset, and a jabra sp700 car kit. They both worked fine when I had 3.1.1 installed. I just updated to 3.1.2 and have lost function in my jabra car kit. The S9 is fully functional. the jabra functions like a speaker and has no capability for phone calls.
