Hello everyone!

I have been looking around and I havn't seen anyone else have this problem, or maybe I just havn't looked hard enough. But anyway, I have the Pioneer Premier DEH-P980BT in my car. With my old phone, the W300i, I could just turn the car on and the phone and unit would automatically connect. With my iPhone I have to go into the bluetooth settings after I start my car and manually unpair the phone and pair it up again. Is there any way to resolve this issue or am I just stuck with it for now? Thanks for the help guys!

Ok, the trick is this: (you'll need a landline phone or another cellphone to get it to work) get your phone to pair with the 980bt, make sure your iPhone it's registered to the deck, then leave your iPhone on the bluetooth screen where it says "discoverable"... then you'll need to call your cell phone or send a text message to it... THIS TAKES IT OFF OF THE BLUETOOTH SCREEN BUT LEAVES YOUR PHONE IN THE DISCOVERABLE STATE!!! I've had my phone set like this for almost 2 weeks and it doesn't seem to run down the battery drastically or anything. Everytime I get in my car and put my deck in, VOILA, AUTO PAIR.

Good luck and enjoy.

I have an iPhone, and I am considering purchasing the DEH-P980BT. Can you confirm that the 980BT can access the phone book of the iPhone over Bluetooth?

No, you can't access the phonebook with iphone and 980bt.

That seems pretty backwards. The iPhone should always be discoverable, as almost every other BT phone is and that is how most car kits work once powered on.

I have the DEH-P980BT and have experienced the exact same problem with my iPhone mentioned by the OP that I didn't have with my RAZR or Blackjack before. Once paired and registered, it should just work.

I agree, and I trouble shot this issue for 3 hours, calling pioneer and apple who blamed each other. I found this trick on accident and it supplies the desired effect, so I am some what pleased. Yes, i hope the next firmware addresses this bluetooth profile issue but at least there is a fairly simple fix for the meantime.

A large part of the problem seems to be the integration of only two or three of the 20 some bluetooth profiles available, mainly the SDP profile which "normally" allows auto pairing. I hope it can be added through a firmware upgrade. (I'm pretty sure that it can be patched this way)

Do you know which Pioneer deck can access the iPhone's phonebook?, I was planning to get the 980bt but now I don't know...
