I know I'm very new on here but I've been lurking and found a lot of answers to my troubles so I had no need to start a thread that was discussed or solved a million times before, ya know. Anyway, I just moved into another house and have been without internet for the past 2 weeks, and I've been using Safari on my 3g during that time and it wasn't easy keeping up to date on current news in EIC. I noticed the phone was lagging badly and crashing when opening/closing apps, especially with Safari and text messaging.

Today, I finally have internet in the house and my laptop is up and running, I found out the blackra1n RC2 and RC3 is out. I understand the differences between the 3 jailbreaks but what should I do to fix the crashing/lagging issue?

Here's the take on my phone since the RC1 jailbreak:
I have not updated or back up new Cydia apps to iTunes 9.0, I haven't installed Chronus and PkgBackup yet, kinda nervous about screwing up my jailbreak and I don't want to download an unlock file.

Apps I have: SBSettings, Intelliscreen, Cycorder, AptBackup, Insomnia, Backgrounder, Categories (I haven't made folders for apps yet), Winterboard, StatusNotifier, AdBlock, and of course, Cydia and Rock. Right

I'm just throwing my apps out there to see if anyone suspects any of them is causing the crashes and lags. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Maybe I have bugs that will be resolved by upgrading to RC2 or RC3? I don't want to unlock my phone.

My guess at your problem apps (in order of likeliness)

1. Rock
2. Winterboard
3. Intelliscreen (though I've heard it's gotten a lot more reliable lately)

Try disabling those one at a time and see if your stability improves.

And what is in the new iTunes 9.0.2? I just opened it and want to make sure it's nothing that will hurt my JB.

9.0.2 shouldn't interfere with your jailbreak at all.

I disabled IntelliScreen and the phone's performance did improve a bit, then enabled it again and performance was a bit better. I don't know how to disable Winterboard and Rock so I just unchecked my preferences in Winterboard, found no difference.

I'm gonna get my apps backed up then load up on iTunes, it's been weeks since I've updated anything. I'll monitor my phone's stability for the next couple days and see if issues arise again.

Thanks. :ok:ok

I don't know what did it but I disabled IntelliScreen and uninstalled Rock App yesterday then enabled IntelliScreen this morning. My phone's gotten more stable when switching apps and texting so everything's running smoothly. So weird...

I also installed Chronus, PkgBackup, QuickReplySMS and 3Gunrestrictor (finally, youtube in HD quality) and I don't think there's anything else I could want....well, until I get hungry for more cool apps. My iPhone is too awesome as it is now, I just hope it doesn't lag on me again.

I dunno why I'm typing this up.... I guess I'm bored at the moment. :dft011:wicked_smile

Thanks for the update. It's always good to hear success stories and you may also be helping someone else who has problems and reads this!:dft012:wink

I'd bet Rock was the problem.

It could be... though I haven't downloaded anything from it. I guess that's another good thing. :dft003:coolkid

Here we go again.... Things were fine yesterday until this morning, I received an text on the lockscreen. I tapped on the SMS to "quick view" the message then went blank, along with the whole IntelliScreen feature except for the wallpaper I had. The app constantly crashes upon opening and is unviewable from the lockscreeen so I attempted to fix the problem by uninstalling/reinstalling from Cydia and I get this: "files installed to /private"....What's that all about?
http://webmail.aol.com/28878/aol-1/en-us/mail/get-attachment.aspx?uid=1.24829081&folder=NewMail&partId=2 (http://webmail.aol.com/28878/aol-1/en-us/mail/get-attachment.aspx?uid=1.24829081&folder=NewMail&partId=2)
I remember seeing a purchase fee of 11 dollars when browsing Cydia for the first time after JB'ing a few weeks ago. But when I installed it last Saturday, it had no price so I assumed it was a trial thing and it came with the Rock your Phone package which I uninstalled yesterday. I guess that's what I get for not buying the app; I wasn't avoiding it in the first place but the price wasn't listed when I installed it. I sent an email to the developer at IntelliBorn addressing the issue; I'm not sure if they got it so I'll wait on it.

In the meantime, anybody got any solutions? You can see in the pic, I can't even uninstall or modify it at this point. Is it time for the dreaded restore process? I hope not.

No answer to help but I do know that intelliscreen is $9.99 after your 10 day trial.

my guess is that it was rock, ive been hearing rumors that installing rock when jailbreaking screws up your phone, may not be right away but later on. apparently this is true since u uninstalled it and everything got better.

edit**sorry i didnt even read your update on page 2 i was trying to answer your first problem haha. but sorry i dont have an answer for you on your intelliscreen problem. i do know google is your friend tho! :)

I gave up trying since I last posted so I took the phone to a friend who also had his jailbroken via blackra1n, his phone is exactly like mine except black. I don't know what he did but he was quick at it! He didn't feel like giving me the downlow on what steps he went through so I assumed it must've been a long story. "Ah well, it would've been nice to share info so it could help others," I told him as I thanked him.

He says I must keep Rock if I were to continue using IntelliScreen, because it won't get updates or bug fixes without RYP. This time I paid the $9.99 for it so hopefully I won't have to encounter this problem again. So once again, things are running smoothly, no crashing or lagging. (crosses fingers, knock on wood.)

Thanks to all for your input, it was well appreciated.

Brian
