Hi all - this is my first attempt at unlocking. I'm trying to unlock a friends v1 phone for him to use in South America for a month while his race team is down in Argentina and Chile for the Dakar Rally.

With the recent release of ra1n/sn0w, should I be using that method or should I be using Pwnage? I already jailbroke his v1 on my Mac using ra1n but the unlocking instructions only mention the 3G and 3GS. Then I found the iclarified.com instructions for unlocking a v1 with 3.1.2 dated October 13, 2009...before ra1n/sn0w was released, so I'm confused on which method I should be using.

Any help would be much appreciated - my searches haven't produced the info I seek and my friend is leaving for Buenos Aires soon.

He has a 3GS for use at home now but he kept his old v1 for international travel counting on unlocking it...his bill for last year's race was well over $2000.00 :029:eyeswideopen

You should be using this tutorial to jailbreak and unlock since you use Macintosh.

Follow the guide Tarek posted. You'll need to use PwnageTool because blacksn0w will only unlock the iPhone 3G and 3GS.
