I am starting to think I have a dead pixel there is a little dot on my screen and I am positive its nothing on the screen I have already tried to swipe it off. Is it possible to get a dead pixel with a new iMac?

Yes. You may have to get used to it being there.

I have the worst luck just returned the computer last night at best buy to get a new one and I just noticed I have two dead pixels they are like micro scopic spec's can barely notice them. I am going to return this computer and I guess go and get another one. This will be my 3rd one in 1 week. That's like buying a brand new car and it has a scratch on it.

Do you own the Pixar movie Cars? I've read on several different AV forums that folks have successfully used that movie to "jog loose" a dead pixel. Literally leave it looping overnight for a couple nights and it's supposed to work like magic. Never tried it personally, though.

There are probably programs you can download that try to do the same thing.

Isn't this the used iMac you bought? Used as in not new...

No Styfle you're a little behind here. He exchanged that one last week for a new one but the new one was messing up pretty bad with some possible hardware issues so he took it back to BB and they gave him this one.

Pay attention!:dft012:wink

So this is the third one? Brand new?
I can't keep up because he has like 10 threads going about iMacs.

1 display model and now 2 new models. And yes he does have multiple threads.

you could ask best buy to swap the screen with your last imac.

i guess it would be easier to just try another new one.

They told me to just bring it back, and they will swap it out again. :(

You're probably lucky to have bought it at Best Buy. Apple might not have exchanged it for two dead pixels.

Yeah best buy apple has a limit It has to be at least 5 dead pixels. He told me though for best buy anyways don't matter if its 1 or 100 dead pixels it can be returned.

Okay, Dave. Maybe I will. I have one bad pixel on my Acer 23". Other pixel fixers haven't helped. Perhaps an eight hour dose of Lightning McQueen will do the trick!

I don't understand how manufacturers can expect people to settle for bad
pixels on a brand new device. There's no way I would.

Its just I have had dead pixels before and I know what they look like. The two that I have on the new iMac are so microscopic small that I have to get my face 3" from the screen to even see them. What would you guys do? Is it true if you have a dead pixel one can turn into 2 and 2 can turn into like 6 real quick? That's what the guy from best-buy said so that's why I really kind of wanted to return it and just not let it go. What would you guys do?

I've never seen bad pixels multiply spontaneously.

Pixel virus!
I'd stop obsessing about them and find something better to worry about, like Ebola or Smallpox.

Easy to say when it's not your iMac.

I'm sorry Cj. That was a rude thing for me to say. I wish you luck with it! :)

But he did say:

I'm sorry Cj. That was a rude thing for me to say. I wish you luck with it! :)Your cool bro now hard feelings.

This is what it boils down too.

2 hour drive there and back + transfer of all data = new computer.
0 hour drive and no data transfer = new computer w/ 2 dead pixels.

What would you guys do?

Also my girlfriend does want to take the computer back and have it swapped so I guess its her call too and I have been kind of leaning that way as well. Quick question for all you guru's out there (where's computerfox?) lol j/p my girlfriend has a mac book pro and I have an Ethernet cord what would be the simplest way to back up all of my music, data, pictures, etc (roughly 20gb max) is there a way to connect Ethernet to the two computer's and transfer? Or I have also heard of a few websites I forget what the site is called that allow you store data (10-15GB) per day so that could be a possibility to. I know it would be easier to do a time machine backup. Only one problem I don't have money for an external hard drive right now because i'm one broke iMac owner. Can someone help me ?
