Hi, just switched over here from precentral. Got rid of the pre and got a 3gs.
Anyways... obviously i'm not impressed with the battery and want to do everything possible to make it as good as it can be. Other than that its amazing.
I understand push mail can drain quicker than fetch. Heres the problem:
Yahoo mail won't' stop pushing!!!!!! No matter what I set it at, I still get email whenever it wants (usually within 1-5 min)
I've changed settings to push off, 30 min, 60 min, advanced set to fetch, etc.
What am I missing here? I would like it to check at 30 min intervals (unless I'm crazy and push is BETTER for battery but so far everything i've read says no)
I've searched and searched and the only topics I find are on it NOT pushing, but mine is opposite - it wont stop!! Please help :dft003:coolkid
Thanks in advance!!

If you turn push off in email settings then push is off. You can also set each mail account individually. In settings, email, email account, advanced - set your email to fetch.
Then set fetch to 30 mins. However, if im not mistaken, push saves battery life, not drain it.

If push is switched off - thats it, its off. However, whenever you open the mail app, it will always check for new mail, which seems to kill the battery a little.

I know what your problem is.
I noticed this behavior since I installed SBSsettings months ago. I'm jailbroken.
Not sure if this happens with the 3G as well.
The mail.app will sometimes persist even when you close out. It remains running in the background. What's happening is it's doing its fetch routine. I literally have to kill the mail.app process. Even the iPod randomly fires up when I'm doing something (in the background).
This may contribute to the reason why battery life is hit or miss with some phones.
I've haven't seen anyone else mention this type of behavior so I'm not sure how widespread it is. When I do mention it others chime in and confirm it happens to them.

Phone, Mail always run in the background. You shouldnt kill these processes. Mail needs to be running in order for mail to be pushed or pulled, which ever the case may be. Dont kill either of these 2 apps.

That is incorrect.
Mail is pulled each time you start the mail.app. I set mine to manually fetch. You don't need to have that running.
I don't kill phone. That's illogical. Besides you can't kill that process even if you try.

That is actually incorrect. 2 apps always run. That is Mail and Phone. Simple as that. Just because an app is running doesnt mean its pulling information.
Mail always runs in the background but only fetches data as and when its told too.
You also can kill the phone app, and unless you start the app again, you wont receive any calls.

You have you tried looking into your yahoo mail settings in your yahoo mail account on your computer? I know that yahoo automatically pushes and there may be a setting to turn that off and just use IMAP settings.

I already proved you wrong by saying that I can kill the process therefore it _doesn't_ always run in the background.
You can kill the process and force a retrieve when you open the app.
Reboot your phone right now. Go into SBSsettings and look at running processes. Do you see mail running?
Now fire up mail.app. Close out. Go back into SBSsettings at look at processes. Do you see mail running?
You also can kill the phone app, and unless you start the app again, you wont receive any calls.
You can kill the phone app but it will fire itself right back up. You will not miss calls.
Do not spread false info.

Just because an app is running doesnt mean its pulling information.
Doesn't mean its pulling information, but it does mean it's using memory and some battery life.
Do you not agree?

Im not being dragged into an argument. I know mail always runs. I kill it in SBSettings, give it 2 minutes and open SBSettings and its running again.
Simple as that. It is you spreading false information, however, you may be confused. My mail is set to push, which is why it may reboot itself, however, killing phone or mail with SBSettings doesnt kill it.
You are also very misguided thinking that just because an app is running it is draining the battery. Unless the mail app is locked into fetching data (which can sometimes happen) it uses very little battery and you wont notice any difference. You will use more battery constantly going into SBSettings trying to kill processes that will come back.
Dave, (psychlion - one of the mods here) has already made this same comment in another thread here. So please, research before posting false information.
