Hotmail Sync Issues

When I delete hotmail emails from my iPhone, it doesn't delete from my hotmail account (vice versa). I've tried going into Advanced Settings - Delete from server -

I set it to "when removed from inbox", but that did nothing for me?

Anyone with the same problem?

It could be because hotmail (and many other mail service providers) are not using the IMAP protocol.
