How long is this meant to take?

I am sending my phone back to Apple tomorrow and last night my laptop charger stopped working so I couldnt restore my phone in iTunes because I needed to wipe the jailbreak/unlock off etc so I thought I would just go to Settings>General>Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

I done this at about half 9 last night and now it is 1 in the afternoon and it still hasent finished.

My laptop charger is fixed now so I am just going to hard reset the phone and restore in iTunes but I thought the Wiping the iPhone was only meant to take a few hours?

Not entirely sure on this, because I've yet to have to do this. I'm sure that it depends on how full the HD (flash drive) is on the phone... But it certainly shouldn't take over 17 hours! I have used iWipe before, and I let it do it's thing overnight to zero out about 20GBs of info, if that helps any... I never used the phone's feature.

It should take a couple minutes at most. I would do a hard reboot at this point.

That method takes much longer than doing it through iTunes and it can take hours. I restored to factory settings in less than 15 minutes today.

It's probably hung. Connect to iTunes and restore.

I did this on the 3G before I put it up for sale. Took about 45min to an hour.

Really?? I've done it at least twice in my lifetime and it didn't take nearly that long.

Resetting the network settings or settings only takes a couple minutes, but erasing all content and settings takes a while, AFAIK. I've never actually done it that way because I've heard that it's time consuming. Also, the times would likely depend on how much media you have on the device.

Are we talking Settings>General>Reset > Erase All Content and Settings? Only done it once, but yeah it took awhile.

Correct. If you do Erase All Content and Settings this normally takes around 1 hour or so... I've done it once on my iPhone V1 and once on my iPhone 3G. Same amount of time.

True and I had very little on the 3G and still took about an hour to do.

Was that option available on the V1? I don't remember that being there.

Yeah. I did it before I sold it.
