Google would be pretty foolish not to give Android 2.0 phones at least a 6-month head start with this software. It's a major selling point. I agree it would be awesome if/when it comes to the iPhone, but I wouldn't hold my breath just yet...

Not really. It would take some serious reverse engineering and I don't suspect that's gonna happen.

I bet we never see it. As a matter of fact I'm predicting right now that in the next major update of the iPhone OS that google maps is gone. Why do you ask? Well the rift between Google and Apple is getting bigger and Apple purchased it's own mapping software a while ago but has yet to use it for anything. Predictions are it will be coming to an iPhone near you.

Google will never yank Maps from the iPhone. Will they yank Earth and Mobile App as well? I think they know that having the Google brand everywhere is more important that promoting their OS through proprietary software.

If this does happen, Apple better hope their software is as good or better than current google maps. If not, Apple will most likely take a hard hit.
I don't know that Apple would risk that big of a change. Just too many people are cozy with their comfortable google maps they have had for the last 3 years. We will see.

I honestly cant see Apple getting pissey with Google. If they removed maps google could pull native gmail support / youtube support etc. Google is EVERYWHERE!

Could they keep Maps.app but make it use the tiles from the mapping company they recenly purchased?

No, they couldn't. It would have to be a whole new program.

OOOOO not a programmer, but I assumed it would take some reprogramming to work. If they were to use the same front end app, just with differnet mapping souce data.

Apple has already gotten pissy with Google. The thought crossed my mine too about no more Google maps on the iphone but I doubt they would pull it too. But who knows, Apple and Google have not played nicely lately, rather Apple has not played nicely.

Yeah and this is what scares me. The fact is that Google has a lot of great things in the works and apple would be foolish to discredit anything they have and will put out. When I saw the Google Navigation I have to say that I was very, very impressed. I have had my iphone for under a year and love it, but if Apple were to give up on Google and not put out anything nearly as cool, I would have to go to Android. :dft006:unhappy

Exactly. If not iPhone, then it's Android for me. With that said, even my uber-Android friend admits that Android doesn't do media (music/video) as well as the iPhone does. And that troubles me.
