Hey I've been reading about many new problems such as losing wifi to iphoto not recognizing the iphone to many other problems since going to blacksn0w. So I'm wondering if it matters how the process was done. I've not had the first problem as many others have noted as well. So what's the difference?

Some people did the entire process on the iphones, they were already running 3.1.2 and still had the blackra1n app on their iphone. Is this possibly the difference? If it is then people could restore their phones and then install blackra1n, and do it over. If not then this is just a wasted thread!

It would be nice to know if there are common factors.:ok:ok

I used the blackra1n app that was still on my phone. I tested it out with a tmobile sim and it worked perfectly. No wifi or photo issues on my end. At first it didnt recognize the tmobile sim, but I reset network settings and it worked.

I installed Snow both ways. From an original Blackra1n app and then a complete restore and RC3.

Nothing but problems in relation to WiFi, Tethering and VVM.
All work fine until you reboot or reset network settings then one of the 3 would stop working.

Leave off the Snow unless you need to use a T-Mobile sim. The RC3 jailbreak is perfect and the other solutions to restore tethering work perfect.

I actually plan on doing a restore this evening and running rc3 on my phone to get the tethering to work. I dont plan on unlocking again until I sell my phone. Which I hope happens soon!

I should add that I currently have Snow installed and my phone is fine. But, it took all day, lots of restores, lots of research and a combination of many tutorials to get it working properly.

I wonder why you ran into so many issues. Thats strange. Atleast you got it working!

Any ideas why some of us had no problems while others had or are having a nightmare over this?

I have no idea. Do you think it may have to do with the generation of the phone used? I have a 3g. Like I said worked fine in minutes.

I doubt it cause you have 3G & I have 3GS so that pretty much covers it.

I know Europa had issues with her wifi and she has a 3gs...well see what everyone else says

My phone would work properly with Ra1n and Sn0w installed.

The issues would come up as I added my other apps back onto the phone. When certain apps required a reboot or reset of network settings, VVM -Tethering - or Wifi would stop working.

See, we didn't have to add any apps back to our phones because we did it all from our phone. I know you did it both ways but the problems you mentioned occurred when you did a restore and reloading of apps. What problems did you have when you did it straight from your phone?

The first install of Sn0w was using the Blackra1n RC1 app that has been on my phone since it came out. All seemed fine at first until a reset the network settings for an unrelated issue and the phone locked up requiring the first restore. Itunes would not recognize that I had plugged it in.

The problems after restoring and snowing were all related to tethering. When the tethering was working properly, the VVM would not. WiFi would come and go during the restores and network resettings.

The solution was to eliminate the tethering MobileConfigs that came with Snow and reinstall using the following setup.

This is what I did to unlock:
a) 3gs already jailbroken and on 3.1.2
b) added blackrain source in cydia and installed from there, it said RC1
After I installed it greyed out my wifi, so I reset my network settings, but it took at least 1/2 an hour to get my springboard back, had me scared, i had a black screen with apple on it, i held the power and home button, when springboard finally came back all was well wifi was back on. I don't know if it works coz i haven't inserted another sim card, will try 1 from a friend with a blackberry with a different carrier.
I probably should have done a clean break as stated on geohot's site.
Also u have to have a sim which supports smartphones, trying one from a reg. cell phone will not work in a smartphone.

I had the same issue with the apple on the screen. Holding Home and Power did nothing until I plugged into itunes and did it again. Then the phone went into recovery mode.

There is a Cydia patch for Wifi problems in the other thread.

Here's specific directions:
Cydia > Manage > Sources > Edit > Add > http://cydia.iphoneil.net/ > Search > Push Fix > Install > Reboot

That is not true. A "smart phone" SIM doesn't exist. That is all account provisioning with each provider. I have tested with a T-Mobile SIM that was from a pre-paid cell phone (not a smart phone) and it works fine.

Perhaps your right with the acct provisioning, but I know here in canada when I first upgraded to an iphone from my samsung, i could not transfer the sim over to the iphone, the sim did not work with the GSM. Since first writing this i have since deleted blacksnow coz it messed up my wi-fi.
I think if I decide to unlock then I will restore to new, then jb and unlock. My needs for an unlock are not an emergency at this time. In Feb. when we take our vacation then I will need it. Great to know it's here.
Happy Unlocking.

Nature of the beast.

I'm a software engineer. You can't predict every bug. You can try to safeguard against them, but sometimes they get through.

There's 10's of thousands of people using this software.

Personally, I'm still waiting to upgrade to 3.1.2.

I'll let people who _had_ to upgrade and couldn't wait field test.

I've reinstalled blacksnow from cydia again coz I am already jb'd and found a fix for problems regarding wifi. I googled and found a cure
In cydia Add source http://cydia.iphoneil.net and in it dl Push Fix and it works. I did not experience the same problems as I did yesterday. I hope this helps.

Remember the reason that there are problems with the iPhone using Blacksn0w is because there is no Perfect way to Jailbreak or Unlock iPhones . . . This method will work great for some phones but terrible for other. Each iPhone is different (in small ways) This is done on purpose by apple for security reasons. The Guys in China say that they actually have about 5 iPhones prototypes that are duplicated on the assembly lines (as far as Software and quality control) So that means that there are 5 different types of OSX 3.x types. They are all very similar except for small things that make them unique. So Geo & Some guy in Hawaii figured out how to Hack one (or maybe 2) of them But there are still 3 or 4 different versions floating around that no ones has Cracked yet. :ok:ok

Sorry but I don't buy it. Apple rolls out 1 software upgrade and it works on all their iPhones so jailbreak should do the same. I'm no programmer so this is just my opinion.
